    Thanks Bunk! A couple of pics if you have time would be great. It looks like the rectangular pieces that span the width are extended a couple of inches on each side? Would definitely aid in stability...kinda like outriggers.

    I too remember the metric "switch-over" in the 70s. Back then I thought it was intimidating...probably just fear of the unknown. Now that I am much older (and hopefully a bit wiser) I find it pretty easy to deal with. Both my cars (2006 Chrysler 300 and a 1988 MB 560SL) use metric fasteners...

    Any home store like Lowes, HDepot, Menards will have the valves and fittings. Remove your old valve and take it with you. Also if clearance is tight you may have to raise the air compressor an inch or so. I have since replaced the 2x4's with anti-vibration pads....

    Stubby 3/8" ratchets?

    That's all I did. Had a couple of Craftsman 3/8" ratchets from tool kits bought over the years that I didn't use anymore. A hack saw or cut-off wheel and a little smoothing of the rough edges and Bob's your uncle.

    Bought the wheel at a auto salvage yard for a few bucks (hairline crack in one of the spokes). A little elbow grease and it makes a fine air hose reel.

    I agree. On my MB 560SL some sort of swivel is needed. I use one by KD tools. A (very strong) magnet holds the plug in and are available in 5/8' and 13/16" versions. https://mercedessource.com/store/ultimate-1316-spark-plug-installation-kit

    Retired and living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here's a picture of my mistress...a 1988 Mercedes 560SL. She's a daily driver and to keep her that way I am my own mechanic. Challenging to say the least...;)
