I used a spar urethane clear gloss with lots of thin coats and sanding in between. I have used it a ton with all kinds of abuse and still looks new unless you look in just the right light. I think it will be easy to quick sand and hook it up with a new top...
Got the vise finished. Took a couple times painting. I was having issues with spraying to thick lol. Note to self, no painting while drinking:willy_nil:lol:.

Lol! They did. I looked at the Craftsman catalogs from 68-72 and all the images showed the drawers on the other side. Also, the back of the bench was in a little better shape. So it all worked out to my advantage.
Look what I got! Picked this up today for $30! I was wondering if I should just get the rust off and spray, or if I can try to "smooth" it out a bit. Also, was there supposed to be a cap at the back and is there anyvway to find a swivel?

There is a 4" wilton vise for sale and it seems kind of crusty. It would be a hour drive just to get there. They are asking 60$ but gonna try to talk down a bit. What do you think? Is it worth the risk?
