    Garage Layout

It took a little bit of patience, but I did this back in 2017 with a trial version of SketchUp.

    Excelsior Tooling Company

 Knock yourself out. While not ideal, I think the price is quite reasonable considering the quality, shipping, new start-up costs, etc. The only thing that will keep me from buying one is the lack of usable space. Last year, I was looking into duplicating Alemite cabinets, and would...

    72 x 40 Shop Build

 Yes, those might present a problem. It was almost 2 AM the other day when I finished these drawings and I'm also not sure about the final layout of those three rooms. To help seal off the apartment from dust and fumes, I'm thinking that I may use about 4' of the bathroom to make an...

    72 x 40 Shop Build

After over a decade of lusting after a shop of my own to build custom vehicles in and start my own business, it's finally happening. I finally got the trees cut last month, and will hopefully be breaking ground this month or next. I was originally going to build it 60' x 40', but went out to 72'...

Automotive workshop and the projects inside

Re: Automotive Workshop How do you like the floor? I'm about to build a 60x40 fab shop and am trying to figure out what finish to go with. I'm leaning towards yours.

Placement of Garage Doors - 60x40 Shop

Thanks, that's actually a really good point that hadn't occurred to me. lol Like I said above, this is a crude drawing. It's not exactly to scale. At 40', the shop is plenty deep enough to have a lift there. The doors will probably be 12' wide. I might possibly get one 14' door.

Placement of Garage Doors - 60x40 Shop

Right now, I'm in the initial planning stages of my shop and am trying to determine the optimum location of the garage doors. As you can see in the crude drawing, about 10-12' of one side will be dedicated to a tiny apartment and an engine room. Yes, the apartment will have an interior door...

Do tell! I'm with you on hating green tint.

    Buying Speedglas

It's time to bite the bullet and get a good welding helmet. I was just curious if anyone had any particular dealer that they prefer. Looking at a 9100XX at $400, so every little bit helps.

    Affordable Rivet Squeezer

They're round head rivets. About all of the rivet squeezers I found on eBay were about $150-$200 including the necessary dies. Since I'm not familiar with rivets, though, I may be looking in the wrong place. It's joining two pieces of sheetmetal together. Just a guess without having my gauge...

    Affordable Rivet Squeezer

I've been working on restoring a Tonka Big Mike dump truck to give to my dad. It's painted and ready for reassembly, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a tool to use on the four 1/8" rivets it requires. I know that I could use one of those punch tools, but not only are a couple of the...

Snap-On Dual 80 Quick Release vs Standard Ratchets Question

I absolutely prefer quick release ratchets. I like knowing that the socket isn't going to come off until I hit the button. Never really had a problem with hitting the button accidentally. Just like keeping your finger off of the trigger until you're ready to fire a gun, I've never had a problem...

Snap-on Round head ratchets. Like or not?

I realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to share my two cents. I bought the 100 tooth 3/8" ratchet last year (I forget what the model number is). Love the smoothness of it, but I loathe the head design. I hate that the selector is plastic and not intuitive, and I dislike its using...
