Anyone using Ikea (Or similar) kitchen cabinets in their garages?

Those cabinets look great. They're nicer than the crappy contractor white cabinets I have in my kitchen. Unfortunately, I don't see anything close to that on the Ikea sight right now. They have some oak faced cabinets, but those are different than yours. Are those Alder? My biggest issue with...

    Odd sized Wright socket...

I just noticed that the inside finish of the socket is different also. Not sure if it's intentionally unfinished or not. Socket on the left is the shorter 9mm. The 8mm is next to it. This kinda looks like a shallow socket to me. (Sorry - photo loaded upside down. Not sure how to fix that. It's...

    Odd sized Wright socket...

Got some new Wright 3/8 sockets. The 9mm is shorter than the others by about 4mm and is shorter than they specify on the web site. Seems odd. Possibly an older one? Mis-labeled shallow socket? Not a big deal - just seems odd. Any ideas?

    Official Epstein's Day 2015 Thread

I'm in. Read here a lot, have posted only a couple of times. Two orders from HJE so far, about to do a 3rd. (Not a mechanic, but spent ~10 years in a machine shop and am always working on something.) I ordered one of the free ratchet rebuild kits with my first order. They called me and...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

Forgot to comment on this. Yeah, I read about the Craftsman markings a while back and forgot about this. So I got curious and grabbed a few from the box - wrenches appear to be VV or V + inverted V. One looks like it may be VA, but not sure. My dad has a decent set of Craftsman stuff from the...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

It was good enough. The sockets were good, the wrenches just adequate. I had a much older Craftsman 3/8 drive ratchet that I preferred. I should clarify: I have no issue owning 1/4 inch, and get that I may sometimes want a smaller ratchet. What I don't want is sockets that don't extend into the...

Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

A couple of things worth noting as I'm filling up the new 26". Firstly, I seem to recall that the drawer pulls for the 44" had a slot to slide in labels for the drawers. Not a requirement, but very handy. The 26" doesn't have this. Not a major issue, but would be nice to have. I am surprised...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

Same here. After having gone to many flea markets, garage sales, and estate sales, I always come away disappointed. You can find deals, but the time it requires isn't worth it to me. I almost never see anything I could really use. I don't know where all the good tools go, but somebody else is...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

Good idea. I could care less if my tools scratch. When tools get used a lot they look used. So be it. I want the best tools I can afford, not the best looking tools. I kind of grew up in a low-tech tool making shop (worked there on-and-off from 12-20 years old). Most of the tools looked...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

Just ordered the Craftsman 250 piece set. It has a bunch of filler tools in there I don't need. Can gift those to somebody I suppose. The wife had some Sears Points (???) and got it for $125. Too good to pass up. I expect the ratchet wrenches to be ****. Will check out some Gearwrench ratchets...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

A ton of good feedback here. Thanks much everybody. That Craftsman set at Kmart is pretty compelling. Better ratchets is a pretty easy solution. The ratchet with 1/4" and 3/8" is a another great idea. Agree I can also buy used. I check CL before posting here. Prices in my area are terrible -...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

Probably up to $300. I'd buy a smaller set to get decent quality. Snap-on is likely out of my price range. Usage is everything that comes up: car repair, driving lag bolts, general household DIY stuff. I work on cars far less than I used to, but could be changing rotors or other small stuff...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

The problem I have with 1/4" is that most sets with these have all the smaller sockets at 1/4". I hate having to stop and change the wrench just because the socket size changed. I much prefer to have the sockets I need for a job and one wrench. Where space is a factor, a smaller 1/4" drive...

    Need new socket/ratchet set...

Some ****-nozzle walked off with my 25 year old Craftsman set. I need to get all new sockets and ratchets. I'd prefer a set that can be stored together but this isn't required. Would like at least 2 ratchets (one larger, one smaller). I need a full socket set (SAE, metric, shallow, deep). I'd...

Tool chest review - Sears, Tractor Supply, Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight

26" purchased for $299 and in the garage. First one was slightly bent so the top box could not sit on the bottom. Didn't notice it at the store and had to haul it back. Manger un-boxed another one and looked it over carefully with it. Great service from him, and he was apologetic about the bent...
