What's your favorite method and tool for dryer duct cleaning?

I use one of those brushes attached to the flexible sticks attached to my drill as well. I run the dryer empty on just air dry, start the brush turning from the outside vent with the drill running, and send it all the way back to the dryer (solid 4" pipe and 2 90 degree elbows about 20 ft total...

    Cement Mixer

A couple years ago I bought an electric one at Home Depot similar to the Ryobi one they have on their site now for some smaller patio and sidewalk projects around the house. Projects we too big to do by hand (for me) and too small to bother with a truck. Was cheaper to buy one than rent one a...

Anyone use a hydro jet drain machine

I have a 100 ft. clog hog that I used to clean out my old cast iron pipes that had all kinds of junk built up in them over near a century. made the insides look like new, nice and shiny and smooth. Will probably run them through every 5 years or so just for preventative maintenance. Between the...

    Insulating Roof Rafters

If all you need is a ridge vent, it probably wouldn't take a lot of time or money to just add one. Pop off the current ridge cap shingles, cut the slot with a circular saw, nail down that ridge vent mesh, and just re-cap it with new cap shingles that match existing.

    Cable to remote tv, wirelessly

You can get extenders that transmit HDMI over CAT5 Ethernet cable that also transmit the ir signal at the same time. I have a cable box in the basement for a tv and also send the signal to my second floor for another tv and it works great since I am never in both places at once. saves the 10...

Window A/C too wide for window?

Just put the unit outside as close to the window as possible, then get some duct tape, a cardboard box, and a knife. cut the cardboard to make "ducts" with the "duct tape". I doubt anybody would have or could find pictures of this setup. even if someone engineered this solution, I doubt they...

Mounting walk boards on 2x4 stud walls to finish eves

might be easier to make up a couple of 2x4 saw horses the width of the opening and throw some 2x10s across them. At only an 8 ft high wall, not like you have make them very high

    Window a/c vs Portable a/c

If you have to go portable, make sure it is a dual hose model. I highly doubt that any single hose portable would work as good as an 8000 btu window unit. I got a portable single hose, 10000 btu for my small one car garage (240 sqft), and it basically does nothing unless it is blowing directly...

Help Me Choose An Air Compressor

I just this past weekend picked up an oiled porter cable 20 gallon horizontal at Tractor Supply for $299. I was in the same boat as you, need something that fit under a workbench. It is a lot quieter than my old oil less one and seems to work just fine.

Considering switching over to electric weedeater: Dewalt 60v vs comparable Milwaukee

This is my second season with an EGO 56v trimmer and couldn't be happier. A lot lighter than my old gas trimmer, quieter, and just as much power. If you already have the correct 60v Dewalt batteries that the linked trimmer uses, couldn't see how you could go wrong with the Dewalt.

    astronomical light switch

I have been using a Honeywell Econoswitch RPLS740B for the last 6 years in my garage to control the outside driveway lights. Lights come on at sunset and I have them go off at 2am as that is the latest I could ever think I would be coming home. I programmed it when I first got it and haven't...

    Gas vs. electric heating costs?

Taken to the next step, lets say you run the electric heater 5 days a week for 6 months out of the year at an average of 3 hours of actual run time per day. That comes out to 130 days per year in which your break even time is 15 years

    Gas vs. electric heating costs?

Ok, so just rough numbers. you can use the electric heater for 4000 hours which will make up the $2500 gas install cost. Since gas is half the price, so the same 4000 hours of gas equivalent would cost $1250. $1250 would give you another 2000 hours of electricity, so it all evens out once you...

    Gas vs. electric heating costs?

You are going to have to try to figure out the number of days and number of hours per day the heat will be on in order to figure out a payback time. If you are only going to heat the garage on weekends to do work out there, the payback time will be a lot longer than if you are going to keep it...

    Portable Air Cond.

I have a 250 sq. ft. single car insulated garage and have a 10,000 btu portable unit and it barely keeps up in the Pennsylvania summer. It takes the edge off but that is about it. I have small slider windows so a window unit would not fit. I would have been better off tearing out one of the...
