    The VISES of Garage Journal

Picked up a Prentiss No. 6 a few days ago. The swivel jaw was stuck but, it is moving somewhat freely now. Between the replaceable jaws and the lettering on the top of the body, I assume this is pre 1925ish? As cool as this thing is, I got beat on a Columbian 108(?) a few weeks ago. Still...

Dumb question? Gloves vs. no gloves

Around 90% of the time I am in the shop I have on gloves of some type. I am a tradesman, my hands make my living, not making an effort to protect them is best left for the old timers that have 1/2" callouses on the 7 fingers that still have some feeling in them. Simple 6mil nitrile rubber...

    old transmission jack restoration?

My first thought was to mod a new jack but I'll lose the swivel handle. As far as disassembly, the jack cases is welded to the baseplate. Maybe the ram unscrews? I'll admit, I've never attempted to get inside a bottle jack

    Cheap refrigerated air dryer score

I've had a massive issue with water in my airlines here in east Tennessee. After shopping a bit I decided that a refer dryer would be the best solution for me.....and then I seen the prices. On a fluke last week I got on ebay and found an add for a "damaged" IR D18n that was flashing a PF1 code...

    Zip Ties ?

Just wondering if anyone has found some good places to get ties for a decent price and quality. The variety can at HF was good for the money but I'd like to buy a larger quantity. Ideas?

Northern Tool Dry Cut Saw vs. HF Band Saw?

I have one of the Harbor Freight saw, it's painfully slow but it works. The miter part is not that great.

    plasma

May be worth it to contact your local welding supply place, mine sells them below MSRP, 10% over cost actually, Miller/ESAB/Hypertherm are excellent units. If those are not an option the Longevity units are good for the money if you are just a hobbyist.

    HF torx bits

I have a set of those HF bits, they work well. My 3/8 impact hasnt killed them...the 1/2 impact will. No comment on nieko types, ive been eyeing the 60pc set for myself. Hey, look, another buy american fanboy.

    ratchet wrench abuse?

Anyone that says they are just a gimmick is a damn idiot. You can have a bolt out in less than half the time it takes using a standard wrench. Not to mention all those PIA places you only get 1/12th of a turn. I've had a cornwell set for 6 years that has been doubled up and beaten with a 5lb...
