Local yard has R19 vinyl faced insulation blankets at $0.93 per sq ft. With the money I would save in lumber for framing the walls, this looks like the easiest and cheapest option with the least amount of thermal breaks.
That is a good point. I’ll check with my local lumber yard. They have been better on prices for framing lumber and offer free delivery so maybe they are the best go to.
So you ran book shelf girts. I have contemplated this as well. It may end up being a little more pricy for the 2x6 vs 2x4 but maybe not that much. Would make installation of batts super easy I can see. Did you toe nail them into the posts as well as the blocking?
Same here. Running the numbers though, it doesn’t seem like I will need that much more lumber for studded walls. Now if I was going to go 16” OC then yes, but since I was planning on going 24” OC horizontal with 10 foot side walls, it ends up being about the same for a sill plate and 24” OC...
I haven’t been able to find much other than your standard 16 and 24” batts. I would love to do the horizontal framing as it would be easier and a little cheaper. Although framing the walls won’t be too bad. It’s not a huge pole barn and I have the time.
After looking in here I may just do traditional stud walls at 24” OC for the fact that it would be easier to hang the batts up. Any input would be great. Thanks!
Just got my 20x28 pole barn built with 10 foot side walls. Concrete goes in next week. Looking at doing 2x4’s on the outside of the posts horizontally at 24” OC and then OSB for walls with metal liner ceiling. Trying to figure best insulation though. I live in Ohio so I’m thinking minimum r19 in...
Well the barn is up. Hopefully getting concrete next week. I am a bit confused though. My girts are measuring 30” on center as opposed to the 24” I was expecting. I didn’t notice it until the builder left. Is this a common spacing? Everything I've seen has been 24" OC for the outside girts that...
I will definitely do that. The barn goes up next week. I asked the builder to put some house wrap on as well so that should help with the wind. I plan on using R19 batts in the wall and blown in R30 in the ceiling.
Thanks guys. I’ve never done it before and could t really find anything in it that was not about roofing panels. I’m buying the dura panels from Menards.
Hey guys. Who knows how much overlap is needed in a metal ceiling with corrugated mateal siding? It will be goin in 4 foot OC trusses if that makes a difference. I’ve seen anywhere from 12” to 6”. Thanks for the info.
So it's going to have traditional 2x4 girts on the outside of the posts layed flat to attach the metal on. I plan on running 2x6 or 2x4 bookshelf girts toenailed to the inside of the posts just for interior walls.
I'm torn between a metal ceiling or OSB. I know I'll have to add some 2x4's perpendicular to the tresses (4 foot O.C.). Do you have to add anything for metal as long as the gauge is thick enough to prevent sag? I do plan on adding blown in fiber glass to the ceiling so it will have to support...
