Hey guys. New here but have used the forum for many things leading up to my build. I'm doing a 20x28x10 pole barn. Will mainly be used for storing my motorcycle and crating a small man cave I guess. I'm having an Amish fellow build it and another contractor do concrete and the I plan on doing all electric and interior finishing myself. Goal is to have it heated with a ventless propane wall mount for the long Ohio winters. I'm wanting to go with R19 faced batts on the walls and blow in for the ceiling. I'm thinking 7/16 OSB for the walls and ceiling unless I can find something cheaper that isn't dry wall. look forward to learning as much as I can. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

rough sawn pine - just went up here - .60 bf. That's 19.20 for 4x8 are. 7/16 OSB looks around $25 for 4x8.

IMHO, pine looks better, and that solid full 1" sure holds things better.

What's your post spacing? might not have to do any framing between posts, or at least much less than for the OSB.

It will be 8ft spacing. I planned on doing book shelf girts with 2x6's between the posts. 7/16 OSB here is right around $20 for a 4x8 sheet.

$4.80 down the street from me at the Amish farm. (at least 20-30 of them within 60 miles) And it would span between posts or at most one vertical.

Just an option that is much less expensive where I live.

I may check some local amish mills. I have quite a few near me. The price I saw was from menards and lowes so the big box stores might be higher.

I'm torn between a metal ceiling or OSB. I know I'll have to add some 2x4's perpendicular to the tresses (4 foot O.C.). Do you have to add anything for metal as long as the gauge is thick enough to prevent sag? I do plan on adding blown in fiber glass to the ceiling so it will have to support that weight. OSB seems to be the cheaper option but I think metal looks way better.

Anybody use 2x4 bookshelf girts as opposed to 2x6 to leave the posts exposed after putting the walls up? Thought It might be a cool idea.

Amish (rough sawn) to Home Depot/Lowe's (milled) around me - between a third and a fourth. No Menards within several hundred miles unfortunately.

Without the post faces you'd sure have to have vertical blocking between girts on posts but may anyways. Are these girts just for interior or also exterior? You'd have to decide if post wood will look good and how finished, but I kind of like it.

So it's going to have traditional 2x4 girts on the outside of the posts layed flat to attach the metal on. I plan on running 2x6 or 2x4 bookshelf girts toenailed to the inside of the posts just for interior walls.

I'm not sure relationship of inner and outer girts, but it would be much better insulation wise if inner and outer girts were separated, not touching, with insulation between them.

Well the barn is up. Hopefully getting concrete next week. I am a bit confused though. My girts are measuring 30” on center as opposed to the 24” I was expecting. I didn’t notice it until the builder left. Is this a common spacing? Everything I've seen has been 24" OC for the outside girts that the metal siding mounts to.

I'm certainly no expert but I believe 30" girt spacing is fairly common. Pretty sure I saw Kyle @ RR Buildings do a building with 30" spacing.
