    typical sizes for garage bays?

Rule of thumb I used was 10' x 20'. A lot of new builds use this as a base, then you upgrade for larger size. Realistically, a 20' deep bay leaves little room to walk around the front/rear. And if you have a full size pickup with long bed, it wont fit. You will also see typical attached...

    slab, foundation prep work

What about rental? I rented the mini excavator and skid steer for doing my garage foundation. I got it over the weekend and the place only charged the hours I used. And it was delivered and picked up. I saved about $2k doing the work myself (this is net savings, as I still paid for rental...

    Wall Solution Options

Looking to seperate the daily driver half from the good car half. It doesn't need to be secure, but noise, heat and moisture protection would be desireable. I would also like some type of a mechanical barrier to keep stuff from the daily driver half from hitting the summer car. I think the...

    Wall Solution Options

I have just completed my garage and want to start partitioning it off. The building is 42 feet deep and 32 wide. I already have the far right bay (12') set up for seperate shop area so I am concerned with the double wide area. The way the building is built, I can park up to two cars in the...

    New Garage

Thanks for the compliments all. I hope to draw on the folks here for interior stuff. I had to have the 'look' to satisfy the local preservation society. Did it cost me to keep them happy. I would have much rather paid for a pole barn. But in the end this is certainly a nicer building.

    shop pics

A Masters and Bachelors in Engineering and an MBA, plus 12 years of employement working hard and getting promoted. Nice garage. I like the bold use of color. I was struggling with finding which shade of white I was going to go with, now I am going to rethink that.

    New Garage

Updated Pics Phase one is completed. Its been inspected and is ready for me to do phase two, which is the inside. My plan is to get wiring and natural gas out to the garage in late January. I'll start insulating and drywall at the same time. I have a few projects in the house to get to so I...

    Heat options

Not sure if you have a new build or not, but I would consider the radiant heat for sure. I laid all my tubing myself. I have a 33 x 42 building. I am running 6 circuits of 200' in length. It cost about $800 in materials (tubing, valves, headers), but I got very good pricing from a friend of...

    Running Natural Gas to Garage

Thanks for all the ideas. I have a friend in the plumbing business that sells the stuff contractors use. I am not sure if I will do it myself (I think he will sell it to me even though I am not a contractor) or hire it out. Problem I have hiring it out is that half the time you get someone...

    Running Natural Gas to Garage

This furnace installers used some type of flexibal stainless with an orangish plastic coating. I inquired about it at my plumbing supply place, and they indicated you need ot be certified to purchase (not a major problem, as I am friends with owner of supply house). Anyway, I don't want to...

    Running Natural Gas to Garage

Any ideas on getting natural gas from the house to the garage? I will probably call the gas company this week to see what they say. I know in the house we use black iron pipe. I am just looking to see what others have done.

    New Garage

Update with another Pic I worked on prepping for the slab this weekend. I racked about 20 tons of stone in place, laid poly doawn and 2" foam board. Then followed up with 10 ga wire mesh. I also hooked up one end of the floor tubing before the winds got real bad. Next weekend I will layout...

    Recommendation for Poly Under Slab

Looking at pouring the slab in the next week or two. I have a general question. First, I have about 10" of Washed Number 2 stones. I need to raise up the stone level and was going to have a few more tones of No. 1 Washed brought it. Next, I was going to lay down 2" of foam board, then lay...
