Another WIFI to the shop question

I have a Cat 6 cable in conduit running underground to my shop. Had a router in the shop and house. Worked fine for a year or so then started having issues. Tried putting in a switch and that seemed to help for a few days but the issue returned. My ISP said that sometimes even shorter cable...

    Fume exctractor

Have been using it a couple days for 3 or 4 hours a day. Seems to be working fine. I have a window on the west side of the shop and will normally see a lot of dust in the sunlight in the afternoon. Was much less today. Will start looking for a proper arm so I can finish it. May also put a...

Here is the inside view. Took the spark arrestor filter out to attempt a better picture. Will put a more fine screen below it.

    Fume exctractor

The time came to finally replace the furnace in the house this fall which left me with a squirrel cage fan. Between late nights in the shop smoking cigars or welding the smoke would get pretty thick. I took the fan and attached it on a small cart my dad brought over. He was at a high school...

    Anvil identity crisis

The weather was cooperative today so I brought the forge in. This will probably be a long term project. I'm told it hasn't been used in over a 100 years. It's been used as a bird bath for the last 20 years, that ended today. Hope to make it usable again.

Hard to imagine any anvil selling for that price. Don't think I will do anything more than find a solid stump to mount it on and look for something to rub into it to keep it from flash rusting. Was thinking engine oil but there may be something better out there.

That's a sharp eye you have there. Ended up with a few different vises, that's my favorite too. Not too large, holds things firmly. Have a larger one, made in India in the 70's. Use it for pounding and heavy work, haven't found a place for that one just yet. Finished the shop last winter and...

    Anvil identity crisis

The only reason I can think of is that someone wanted to sell it as a more valuable anvil. Looking at it again tonight after wiping it down with a little ****** fluid it must have been Vandium. There might be a company logo or maybe an S or J to the left of the letter V. Not really all that...

I think you are right about that. I will take another look at it in the morning.

    Anvil identity crisis

I dug out my Dad's old anvil to use in my shop. He bought it from a retiring blacksmith in the 50's. The story he told me is it's swedish steel. I cleaned off the rust and paint with a wirewheel to see if I could find the manufacturer name. It looks like someone ground off the raised letters...

    Toledo power hacksaw

I believe my Dad put the arbor on the back after he brought it home, he is big on changing rpm's on equipment. If he didn't add it then certainly modified. When I get back to the shop I can get a better picture of it back there. I haven't done much research on new blades yet, mainly because I...

    Toledo power hacksaw

While fighting to keep a blade on a worn out band saw my Dad reminded me of his Toledo power hack saw. He bought it in the fifties from a machine shop. He used it in his shop on the farm until the farm was sold in '91. From there it went to a friend's granary. Not sure when the roof fell in on...
