From what I’ve seen SBD craftsman is pretty much just older dewalt models in red plastic. Im not convinced this is a bad thing as most of those older dewalt models were plenty good enough.
Some of it is likely Porter Cable in red plastic as SBD has all but abandoned the PC line.

So I’m in the market for a new bench top belt sander. My 18 year old Craftsman is completely worn out, bad bearings, won’t hold adjustment and motor has gotten so weak you have the release belt tension to get it started. For a brief moment I considered trying to rebuild it but that really isn’t...

I’ve been on eBay for 26 years it’s been a ride. Back in 04 it was just a giant online flea market. It started going down hill when eBay bought PayPal. In that time frame I lost count of the number of times I had accounts hijacked and locked. When eBay moved away from forcing you to use PayPal...
What seems to work best for me is to have a basic core set of tools in a small easily portable bag these are the tools that you need on pretty much any project.
Everything else stays on the truck and you keep an empty tool bag or two so you can load up what you need in addition to the basic...
With modern Torx head screws the impact driver doesn’t offer as many advantages as it once did.
I use both but my drill comes off the truck every day my impact might not come off more than a couple times a month depending on the task at hand.
Honestly the only thing I really prefer an impact...
Ive probably got 30 pairs of assorted Channel Lock pliers. I’ve been using them for 20 years but here lately I’ve been slowing buying Klein. Currently have all my most used pliers swapped over to Klein. I don’t know if they are better but they are different. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
I bought a dewalt cordless palm sander about a month ago. I already had two corded palm sanders. A cordless random orbit sander and a corded random orbit sander along with a couple handheld belt sanders a bench top belt/disc sander and a large horizontal belt sander on a floor stand.
Why did I...
For the last 10 years or so I’ve found that 99% of screwdrivering tasks can be accomplished with whichever klein/lennox/Milwaukee multi bit (6 in 1, 11 in 1) etc screwdriver you prefer.
I do have an assortment of dedicated drivers but truth is I rarely use them
I’ve always got either a Milwaukee or a Klein folding utility knife in my pocket. So I save a few ounces in the bag by not including one. Not going to lie sometimes I grab one from the truck if I’m cutting something super nasty I don’t want back in the pocket
Agree. If you put in everything you want it quickly turns into either a specialty kit or something so big and heavy it’s not practical to carry it to the job.
I don’t really carry screws either. But I’m a pack rat and have a hoarders mentality when it comes to spare hardware. The bag of...
Yes! The Stanley speed square along with a Stanley utility knife. I don’t remember what happened to the knife but somehow the speed square has survived.
The Ridgid adjustable probably came the following week. I remember complaining about the price but the guy at the supply house pretty much...
