    Wall and cabinet paint question

Definitely go for the higher gloss finish on the walls. We went from flat wall paint to gloss and honestly couldn't tell the difference in covering imperfections and a definate plus for ease of cleaning.

    Garage door maintenance?

The installer that installed my garage door last year said absolutely no lube on rollers or tracks but some grease on torsion spring should be apllied annually. It is however killing me to not lube it!

Sell me a CORVETTE!! (Vette owners only..)

I love my Vette. Always wanted one and until I drove a C5 had never found one to be comfortable enough to drive. The C5 electric seats fit me perfectly and it is plenty comfortable enough to drive 400 or 500 miles in a day. The mileage is better than any of my other vehicles too (I have averaged...

    The General Drill Bit Set

Re: Tell me more about speed Maybe a stupid question, but what are the proper speeds for steel, aluminum, and wood. When using a variable speed handheld how do you judge the proper speed? Thanks

    DIY oil change VS. dealership

I do my truck and corvette, but don't touch my MB since it is still under warranty adn have to be able to prove service. My friend doesn't trust any one else on his vehicles as he is a very competent mechanic himself. The first time he took a BMW in for there free maintence (oil change etc.)...

    tile over vinyl lam?

Yes, it can be done. There is a modified thin set that has an additive which works well will well glued down vinly. 2nd, be careful, before you start trying to undo vinly. Most of it made prior to the mi70, early 80's had asbestos in it. I cut a small piece of my vinly floor out(mid 60's and...

The equipment/tool you wish you'd gotten earlier...

Makita Angle Grinder Oscillating saw (HF not fein), really great for making plunge cuts in cabinet backs, drywall cutouts for electrical boxes etc. Bought in year 6 of a major home remodel and every time I use it can't help but think I wish I had this 5 years ago.

    I was burglarized last week.

I am so sorry for your invasion of privacy. I was broken into in almost the same, tape the window smashed a hole, reached in undid the latch open the window in he came. I am a big proponent of security bars. Before our break-in I hated them, but after going and looking there are much nicer ones...

    Building a storage shed

I am building a 10 X14 shed and the one that I just tore down was not insulated. This one will be! Will the insulation keep something from freezing, maybe not, but it will cool down much slower and then in the summer it will not get hot as quickly. Also when I do run the small electric heater it...

    Overkill for garage door insulation?

I just got a quote from Overhead door for a 17ft R17 insulated door for $1495 installed and the 2 single doors I am replacing hauled away. BTW I am having the header reinforced and the center post removed. Yea! first step in my remodel of garage. 2 uninsulated 8ft doors at the depot were $595...

    Building too seriously

To answer the question asked by the OP, I only want to do it once and I obsess over the details, because I won't get another chance to do it right. I do all of my own work because the two or three instances I have used a contractor I have been disappointed by the quality, timeliness or cost, (...

    Wood cabinets.........staining a color???

I'll try to load some pictures of the cabinents I stained black. These were unfinished oak cabs from Lowes and I used Minwax Black water based stained, 3 coats worth and it didn't hide or cover the grain, then 2 coats of Polyurethane, they are real nice, there are also some "pickling" stains...
