Hey folks........

Im just about ready to start my garage project. Ive got the racedeck all ready to go.

I was going to plan ahead and start thinking cabinetry. I cant afford baldhead but man I wish I could.

Anyway, I think Im going to go the unfinished kitchen cabinets that you can get from lowes, homedepot or menards.

I was thinking instead of staining them a normal "wood" color I would try a colored stain or wash.

I was thinking a nice red but still want the grain to show thru. I dont want to paint them.

Has anyone ever tried this on cabinets or any wood projects for that matter?

Thanks in advance

There is a stain that is by Old Masters called " Fire Red" I think is the name which is a bright red stain you can use to get that type of effect. They usually carry it at Benjamin Moore paint store. This is a picture of it on some dark walnut on a Empire turntable I'm restoring.

I'll try to load some pictures of the cabinents I stained black. These were unfinished oak cabs from Lowes and I used Minwax Black water based stained, 3 coats worth and it didn't hide or cover the grain, then 2 coats of Polyurethane, they are real nice, there are also some "pickling" stains that can be use for cabinents as well as some dyes from woodworkers supply. I was pleased with the outcome. Pictures later
