I've had every heater you could think of. I now run a wall mounted 36,000 btu gas wall Heater, I'm 20x 20 ,I figured it out and I would need like 28,000 btu ,but for the extra $40 bucks they had a 36,000 btu ,(Heater was $150,from home depot,but I think NorthernTool has them too) Heater works...

You cant" shave" the wire and wrap new wire arround it. They used to do this with the old knob and tube . You can join two wire together in the panel , but is seldom done. What do you have, to splice into in the panel box?

I made mine 8' L x 25" W x 41" H , finished ..Its a nice height for working ,no more hunching over the workbenck,saves some back pain, especially if your tall .
