    Lights over hoist

We did a job for an oil change place and they had us come back and move a couple lights. They said the lights over the hoist were making it hard to see when working under the cars. They were high bay UFO lights, small and very bright. Wasn’t sure if this is a legitimate problem or just a unique...

    Lights over hoist

Hoping someone that has a hoist can chime in. Is there any benefit to being able to turn off the lights directly over a vehicle hoist? To prevent getting blinded when looking up from underneath? Is this worth adding the extra wiring while I can? Or is this a waste of time?

Can I control a contactor with a thermostat?

I use Mysa for my baseboard heat. The ability to monitor usage and make simple changes is useful. It paid for itself within a few months. My energy usage dropped 60 percent in those heaters. It sounds like your pretty diligent about controlling things manually so you may not see the savings I did.

    leave extra conductors in panel?

This is coming from Canada but our code should be similar. We run “spares” all the time. Sometimes with no intentions to ever use unless something comes up. Just make sure they are capped and in boxes (panel) at either end. We typically use a gutter box above the panel and leave the spares in...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

I’m curious about the lumen output of led vs fluorescent tubes. I’m using an older layout drawing from this thread, the layout specs fluorescent tubes rated at 2800 lumens. The led tubes I’m looking at are rated at 2200 lumens each. As I understand the fluorescent tubes don’t direct all of their...

    Radiant tube heater

What brand did you go with? Does it list a btu output? The one I'm looking at is calcana.

    Radiant tube heater

Wondering about overhead radiant tube heaters. I will need to heat a garage roughly 900 sq feet with 11' ceilings. I'm looking at a 10' ng radiant tube, the input btu is 40k and the output is 31540. Does that sound like pretty poor efficiency? I can't find output numbers from any other...

    Sound proofing

Sound channel won't work, I need to mount cabinets on the wall and that will bypass the effectiveness of the channel. The garage is being built off the house so there is the exterior wall of the house which is the plywood wall. I'm thinking I will build a 2x4" next to it with an air space and...

Maybe also compressor and impact. Music and the occasional swearing when things go wrong. Three out of four bedrooms share that exterior wall

    Sound proofing

Any suggestions for the sound proofing of my attached garage? The exterior wall of the house is 4" thick with drywall on one side and plywood on the other, basement is roxul main floor is fibreglass. One thought is to build a 2x4" wall in the garage with roxul insulation and a sound dampening...

    32x30 attached new build

Any way the measure the house trusses? I would just go into the attic and measure but I'm not sure I would be able to get an accurate measurement To be honest I think it is going to cost more to do attached, the only thing il be saving is space.

    32x30 attached new build

I didn't price out the difference. Detached would most likely be much cheaper. With the size and shape of my lot, and size of my current driveway I think attached is the best use of space. Due set backs if I wanted detached and reasonable distance between the garage and house I would lose most...

    32x30 attached new build

The scissor trusses are a for sure thing I just need to gain a little more height. I did some math and with the 2/12 ceiling pitch I want a minimum 13' in the center. Means I need 10'6" walls He never mentioned having to go deeper with the footings. The grade slopes another foot into the...

    32x30 attached new build

Made some changes to the drawings. Original drawings use parallel chord trusses giving the appearance of 11'6 walls and brought the garage roof plane over the house roof. New drawings use scissor trusses with 10'6 walls giving me a touch over 13' at the peak of the ceiling. I have the option of...
