Lights over hoist

Hoping someone that has a hoist can chime in. Is there any benefit to being able to turn off the lights directly over a vehicle hoist? To prevent getting blinded when looking up from underneath? Is this worth adding the extra wiring while I can? Or is this a waste of time?

Maybe I'm not understanding your question....you're talking about a vehicle lift? To prevent getting blinded when looking up from underneath the car? There's a car in the way...you won't get blinded.

Exactly. You will actually need more light.

Position your lights so they are not over the lift if it has a top plate. Mine landed right over it and I had to kick it over a couple feet

We did a job for an oil change place and they had us come back and move a couple lights. They said the lights over the hoist were making it hard to see when working under the cars. They were high bay UFO lights, small and very bright. Wasn’t sure if this is a legitimate problem or just a unique case.

I’m looking at a bendpac asymmetrical lift, has top bar. Ceiling is tall enough that lights will still clear and they don’t land directly over the top plate

Not directly over the car. The open hood will create a shadow. I do not have a light directly over my bay at work either. Brand new shop, there are UFO lights throughout the shop and twin 4' LED strips running in front of the work bays. Also twinned 4' strips behind each bay in front of the aluminum doors. The doors reflect the light nicely under the cars.
