    Garage ceiling paints should be durable enough to not peel or crack and cover any old stains. If your ceiling has many imperfections, you'll want to stick to a flat paint sheen. The best interior paint always work best for ceilings.

    I don't have an e-book, but I remember using, and still have it at home, "Structural Steel Design: A Practice-Oriented Approach". Walks through everything from basic to complex scenarios with a step-by-step format, so it is very friendly to someone not as versed in steel design.

    Remove Foam Insulation?

    A hand sander with coarse paper will remove it, then you can paint it all. Once you are done it'll look just fine.

    Will a red ceiling ruin my lighting?

    Dark pigmented colors like red are the hardest to get uniform coverage. Make sure the paint is thoroughly mixed, the pigment tends to settle. It will take 2+ coats for sure.

    On a six months of gap. Open access, spray on cleaner, hit with brush /water. The cleaning solution should go out your drain. It's a fairly simple process if you can access the coils.
