    New Build-Garage Features Suggestion

These are all great thoughts! @durk_2007, the PEX in wall sounds pretty great for an air system. Do you happen to have any pictures of your system in total you'd be willing to share? If so, a PM would be awesome! @dcg9381 The thermostatic vent like you're describing sounds great. Also, I do...

    New Build-Garage Features Suggestion

Good thoughts, @Onebean My AC problem is that this garage essentially has all 4 sides as “front” surfaces, and there isn’t any aesthetically supportable place for a AC compressor unit. Everything is enclosed. I’m not aware of any proper AC unit that would therefore fit the bill, short of a wall...

    New Build-Garage Features Suggestion

Thanks everyone for your great thoughts! Great idea, @jack stand and @dcg9381 for the attic fan. Do any of you have parts you’d recommend? I’ll definitely be putting in CAT6 (maybe CAT7 since I can get it for about the same), and I’m running fiber from the house (many runs and a couple CAT7...

    New Build-Garage Features Suggestion

I'm building a new detached garage and looking into what I should put in before we get drywall on. They're going to start doing the foundation any day now, so there's some time. The garage is a detached 3 car garage, which will be used for parking and for projects. I do work on cars, and...

    Dehumidifiers???

Thanks guys, we're going to be putting in a heating only unit in the attic that will have ducts, and I'm thinking of putting in an Aprilaire E100V into the duct system. The 100V has a fresh air ventilation option as well. I'm interested in people's thoughts about humidity in detached garages...

    Dehumidifiers???

I'm resurrecting an older head here, but we're constructing a detached garage here in central Indiana and trying to determine if I should put in dehumidification. We'll have wet cars in there with snow in the winter with only light heating and in the summer, that's when it gets really humid in...

    Evacuating Detached Garage Attic Heat?

Thanks for sharing, and it's a great point! I don't have a great spot to put the heat pump outside, but it's something I thought of. Honestly I don't think we'll normally heat it very warm in the winter, maybe 50° until we need to heat it up for some sort of event.

    Evacuating Detached Garage Attic Heat?

Thanks, Bill. Yeah, it's feeling like we should probably put a door in, which would help manage it. I just keep thinking that there's no reason if it's a million degrees in the attic and just warm outside that we shouldn't be able to solve it with exchanging air.

    Evacuating Detached Garage Attic Heat?

We'll have an asphalt/wood underneath roof and concerns about moisture being trapped there by the builder are giving me pause with insulation trapping moisture up there. It does get humid here in the summer.

    Evacuating Detached Garage Attic Heat?

Yeah, we're thinking about putting in a door to the attic but we don't really want to. Our builder highly discouraged spray foam on the ceiling due to humidity being trapped, so I'm not sure what's the best option for the space. Ridgid foam under rafters is something we hadn't considered and...

    Evacuating Detached Garage Attic Heat?

There will be installation in the walls and between the garage area ceiling and the attic floor. There will be ridge and soffit vents, which I’m referring to as the conventional venting.

    Evacuating Detached Garage Attic Heat?

We are building a detached garage in Central Indiana. We will have heating in there, likely as an electric furnace with recommendations from others here since we don’t have gas available. In the summer, we can open the garage doors and person doors to help cool the space, but the attic area...

Who Has Carbon Monoxide Detectors in Garages?

This fits my use case, and I’m hopeful it should be a good fit then. This really helps!

Who Has Carbon Monoxide Detectors in Garages?

I think since I want the opportunity to know about the smoke alarm going off in the house and of course do not want real CO problems, I'll get a Nest Protect for the detached garage and one for the attic (with open space above with standard stairs etc.). If the alarm goes off too often, I'll...
