    Help! Setting slope for slab?

Slab thickness should stay the same throughout. I believe you adjust for slope with your screenings.

Heating options for garage + house

I put one of these on my detached 2.5 car Garage. http://www.motherearthnews.com/renewable-energy/solar-air-heater-zmaz06djzraw.aspx Keeps the Garage 20 degrees warmer than outside on sunny days. I run a little electric oil heater on low or high depending on the temp. Garage is well insulated.

    24' x 28' garage/shop addition

I am building a 24 x 28 myself next spring. I would love to see your layout for your benches and shelving and such.

Sidewalk repair in November in Chicagoland

Just pour it and dont worry about. Concrete will generate its own heat and the little bit of frost we have now is not a problem. Bigger problem may be keeping the leaves out of it!

    Looking for free heat

I feel that if I can keep the slab at 55 Degrees any type of booster system will get me where I want to be in temperature. Though I did think that a 55 degree slab meant a 55 degree garage.

    Looking for free heat

I have excellent southern exposure and plan on installing a passive solar heat system that is also on my Garage now http://www.motherearthnews.com/renewable-energy/solar-air-heater-zmaz06djzraw.aspx#axzz3Gwqho1KS I think it would be a great booster. I did a search for circulation pumps and...

    Looking for free heat

Chitown_hillbilly gets it! My plan was or is to use an environmentally safe RV antifreeze and just keep it pumping in a continuous loop year round. I dont want to use any plastic tanks as that will take up too much space in the Garage unless I bury it. I will have to deal with village...

    Looking for free heat

First, I am a little south of the Windy City in Illinois. I understand and will insulate the slab. I would be happy if a pump would keep the slab at a constant 55 degrees. My question now is what kind of pump will be strong enough to run this and will work off of Solar Power?

    Looking for free heat

Hi Guys, I have an idea in my head and need some expert input. I plan on building a house next spring with a detached Garage. I am thinking about placing some PEX in the Floor, Digging some trenches behind the Garage as deep as I can get, adding more PEX, bringing everything together properly in...

    Basic Garage Heater

I think it all depends on how much you want to spend. If no NG than your options are propane, electric and solar. I installed this on my southern wall, it helps, on sunny days. http://www.motherearthnews.com/Renewable-Energy/2006-12-01/Build-a-Simple-Solar-Heater.aspx

    Basic Garage Heater

yes it would be a code violation. but lets look at this realisticly, it is a ONE car garage, not a full time shop. A duct from the house would allow air to flow in one direction, no return, all you want to do is keep it comfortable. Seems to be the cheap way to go. The attached garages I had in...

    Basic Garage Heater

Maybe there is a way to tap into the house system and run a duct to the garage. I would cut a small hole in the drywall between the studs of your exterior walls and rent a machine from Home depot and fill the cavities with blown in insulation.
