    vintage DeWalt Radial arm saw

Looks a LOT like the DeWalt that my father had when I was growing up. He actually had TWO RAS's in his shop, the green DeWalt, which was set up with a dado stack, and a Craftsman, which was set up with a combination blade for rips & crosscuts.

    Road find

I've picked up screwdrivers & pliers & ratchets & other stuff from the pavement, but my all-time best roadside find was not a tool ... I was driving the work truck back to the office at the end of the day & spotted something next to an exit ramp. I was going about 70 & couldn't stop in time...

Circular Saw Died - Was it me (n00b)?

Most of the saws I have purchased over the years have been new, and they have lasted 20 or 30 years ... even the B&D circular saw that I bought back in the mid-80s is still working well. The only saw I have bought used was a garage sale find ... $50 for a 10" miter saw that the little old lady...

    Montgomery Ward Powr Kraft tools

Nice. I have quite a few tools that once belonged to my father and a few that were my grandfather's. Each brings its own happy flashback every time I use one of them. Enjoy the time you have left with your step-dad & enjoy the memories that come later on.

Show us your Belt Grinders or Sanders

I still use the filthy mess that my father had in his shop when he died 27 years ago. It's probably older than I am, but it is mounted to the original BelSaw stand.

    Name a tool you hate

I think the official name for it is a "basin wrench". My father always called it a "dammit wrench", because of the difficulty of using one and the number of times he would yell "Dammit!" while using it.

    Black & Decker Workmate

I love my Workmate! I've had it for probably 20 years, and it shows ... paint spatters, solder drips, and other assorted evidence of regular use.

Just curious - Any one ever live in their shop?

I don't, but my father-in-law does at his shop on Chicago's north side. It's kinda sad, really. He's divorced once, and widowed once. Had to sell his house due to financial constraints following Wife #2's battle with cancer. Just turned 80 last month. He won't leave Chicago, so that rules out...

Spiders!! And other undesirable garage helpers

I beat the fark out of them with a broom or rolled up newspaper. They have invaded the current woodworking project in my Northeast Indiana garage.

Ideas for organizing my garage mess

If it was my garage? First thing I would do is cover the exposed studs & insulation with Sheetrock. I would paint it white or a light color. It's amazing what that can do to brighten the enclosed space & make it easier to see what you're looking for. I would probably have some pegboard in my...

    Thank you sears!

Not to mention the manufacturer/retailer churning out cheap **** in place of the quality products they once sold, and/or changing their warranty guidelines. Amen. I really hate Comcast (former employee) and Bank of America (former stockholder).

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

"IN" my garage? Rolled out the air compressor and added air to tires on my F-150 and the wife's Exploder. Fueled the mower to cut the lawn. Tested the fit of the camping box I'm building on the base for said box. And I opened a beer.

Stand Up if You're a Craftsman Diehard (Not the Battery...)

OK. I'll stand. Handsaws, hammers, radial arm saw, impact wrench, punches, chisels, drifts, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, ratchets, ... even the jackplane that I nabbed out of my father's workshop when he died in 1989 ... I will admit, though ... when my tablesaw died, I replaced it with...

Stand Up if You're a Craftsman Diehard (Not the Battery...)

You mean kinda like buying a Made in USA Schrade knife on eBay (vs. buying the current Made in China Schrade knives at retail stores)?

    Craftsman 10" radial saw

Probably the same reason why people are removing perfectly good incandescent light bulbs and replacing them with those CFLs ... it's the "next wonderful thing". The photo in the original post looks like my RAS, purchased in 1989. I would imagine that Sears sold that same model for a few years...
