Do you change your own oil in all vehicles?

I'm 20 and have never had anyone else work on my cars, other than state safety inspections and alignments. I usually group in routine maintenance by job so I do it all at once. My 86 Subaru XT hasn't needed any work besides oil changes in a year. For that car I use 10w30 advance auto parts brand...

    Let's see your toolbox.

My toolbox is just a Harbor Freight three shelf cart, but I do have this bad boy for A/C work:

What smell do you hate the most (in the shop)

ATF/Acetone mixture from an oil squirt can to loosen bolts is horrible. The absolute worst is used gear oil or ATF spilled on the catalytic converter. The chinese rubber/plastic smell, I wonder why every Circuit City & Harbor Freight tools have the same distinctive imported odor. I wonder...

Ok, what smell do you love the most in the garage?

The "old Mercedes smell" a combination of outgassing vinyl, horsehair & leather. Smells like freshly baked pretzels! Automatic Transmission fluid smells great, from the bottle. Diesel fuel, heavy machinery grease, the old window grease smell when you open a door panel (also smells like the...

Does harbor freight allow more then one coupon on the same item.

HF's black 11 drawer roller cabinet is on the harborfreightusa.com website for $200, if you bring that printout to the store to have the price matched, then use the 20% coupon it would be $160+tax. Does anybody have this one, is it a pretty good buy? I've been looking for a toolbox for a while...

    college tool list

I'm a sophomore EE college student, you definitely want to be prepared for breakdowns, but I don't recommend working on your car there unless the issue prevents your car from driving. Most of what I keep in the trunk: 3/8'' ratchet and Metric socket set, 3/8'' metric hex key sockets...

How Things Have Changed In The Shop

Looks like you got rid of the "Awesome" cleaner from the dollar store! That's good stuff! :shocking:

What was your first tool set?

The first toolset I got to use was my great-grandfathers woodworking and general household tools. Nice cast flathead screwdriver with a wooden handle, wooden level, ancient hammers and saws, in a big metal toolbox. To learn to work on my first car, a 1980 MBZ 300cd, I bought a plastic case...

I need a good set of 1/2 drive, impacts. Any ideas?

My Harbor Freight 1/2 metric impact set has been great for 3 years, you can beat on them and they don't break, very good tolerances too, only 10 dollars for the set, which I believe is 10-23mm.

    Vise-Grips USA vs Vise-Grips China

At my Homedespot it's 50/50 USA and china Irwin vicegrips. I like the 5mm hex in the tightening screw, made it easy to remove a rusted in oxygen sensor.

What kind of music do you listen to in your garage?

I have a 1970's wood paneled GE turntable AM/FM stereo and 70's sears speakers with an ipod hookup in my garage. I listen to the LP Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, Rush (the canadian rock band not the raging hillbilly heroin guy) Yes, Genesis, Styx, Journey, Boston, Commodores, anything Motown...

"Buy the best tools you can afford"

I almost exclusively buy my tools from Harbor Freight and none of them have broken on me in 3 years of wrenching duty on 80's midwest cars (read: iron oxide). So yes, they are the best for me, and I can afford them too. I need the rest of the money for parts & oil :pimpflash
