What will happen to your tools when you die?

I'll probably have them donated to a technical school or something....

    T-8 Fluorescent Shop Fixture Recommendation

Agreed. I just retrofitted all the T12s in my shop with those GE ballasts (cost $15 each) and they are excellent quality.

    Second of three shops

Am I blind, or did you just do a really good job of hiding things? I don't see the air compressor....

How many of you have 2 stage compressors?

I've got an IR TS4N5 5HP 2-stage, 80-gal. tank, 220v 1-phase, bought from TSC for $899 after a discount coupon. Very nice unit, kept in my 12x20 storage/work barn with PEX tubing buried underground (below frost line) inside 2" Schedule 80 routed to my garage some 70' away. Works great for air...

    Cans or Fluorescents?

Cans are great in a basement or showroom, but in a work environment your best bet for efficient lighting is going to be fluorescent.

    8ft T8 choices

I would have to agree with the folks here recommending the 48" T8s over 96" ones. I just got done retrofitting a bunch of 48" T12 shop lights I had been using (which were about 25 years old and still had their original magnetic ballasts) with electronic T8 ballasts (GE branded) and 6500K...

Snap on vs. Harbor Freight wrenches

The way I look at it, HF is a great place to buy specialty tools you need to get a specific job done that you'll only need to do once. As a place to buy tools you're going to be using constantly and/or being hard on I'd pass. That said, I do have some of HF's stuff that comes with a lifetime...

    US General at Sears outlet

Yep, air compressors are one thing where you actually WANT to go to HF to buy. The US General units are very good quality.

    10-2 for light duty 220

You sure about that? I had a licensed electrician run two branch circuits to my outbuilding and he never said anything about it being an issue. I've got 12-2 and 10-3, both UF cables direct buried in a trench that goes below the frost line. There's also 2" Schedule 80 conduit in the same...
