I have to second the CAT compressors. I have a 5510SE. I only use for light duty things like tires inflation and the like, but I couldn't be happier. It is so quiet, I think I could be watching TV with it running next to me and I wouldn't need to turn the volume up.
These gloves are not worth spit for the cold, but for giving (imho) the best compromise of protection and dexterity I haven't found anything better. CLC Pro Framer gloves. They hold up pretty well too.
