So I have had a Harbor Freight 26 gallon oil lubed pump for about 13 years without any issue until now, the pump cylinder busted so it will no longer build pressure. I started looking for a new one and came across this and was wanting opinions it has more cfm than the harbor freight one. The tank is still good on the Harbor Freight so i though i could plump this into the tank to give me more recovery capacity. I use an impact, die grinder, cut off tool and some nailers along with an inflator and blow gun occassionally. I do have a gaas powered compressor in my work truck if i need something more. Does this seem like a good price?

Being an oil-free unit, I would pass. That money would be better spent on an oil lubed compressor with a far larger tank.

I've been researching CAT compressors for about 3 weeks now... I'm looking at the 8 gallon setup. Overall... I'm looking for light duty, and since it will be setup in my attic above the garage to keep it out of the way, I'm looking for quiet operation. I have no need for a larger or more expensive oil lubed system.

For my purpose... I'm really digging the CAT quiet compressors. I'd take them any-day over the HF ones.

Pricing seems very reasonable to me... especially for the quiet operation.

Here's a fairly unbiased review of the CAT vs HF:

I have to second the CAT compressors. I have a 5510SE. I only use for light duty things like tires inflation and the like, but I couldn't be happier. It is so quiet, I think I could be watching TV with it running next to me and I wouldn't need to turn the volume up.

I love my CAT compressor. I wanted a compressor but didn't need one but to fill tires, so I got a quiet one. everyone's amazed by how quiet it is, I just like not going deaf faster than necessary. I figure my ears are worth a piston rebuild or two.
