I'm building this. Out of these.

Not really an issue if you stay out of the border towns. Have you ever been there?

    Wheel genius or wheel stupid?

When we eventually do the Allison swap it needs a stand alone controller and we'll take care of the speedometer at that point. I'm not concerned with odd shift timing. I'm also not the biggest Dakota Digital fan. I've used a couple of their adapter products that just haven't worked well. I...

    Wheel genius or wheel stupid?

Still not good on a .5 tire. Those have steel belts in the sidewall that work harden and have a tendency to zipper fail, when that happens they can kill you.

    Wheel genius or wheel stupid?

Speedometer is completely off. I'm putting 08 F450 axles with 4.30 gears under our 2000 3500hd that had 5.13 gears. We will be changing transmissions from a 4L80E 4 speed to an A1000 6 speed in the next phase of this build.

    Wheel genius or wheel stupid?

So I've been thinking. The height of the 225/70/19.5 is 31.9 inches. You can't air down a 19.5 for traction because it will come off of the bead because of the angle of the bead seat on .5 tires and/or possibly damage the sidewall so that that goes BOOM! when you air it back up. So I need a...

Besides sockets, ratchets what are other must have tool for auto use in your tool box

I agree 100% on having the correct tool and researching prior to the job. As I stated, our usual tool (Snap On/OTC6695) wouldn't fit. We've done this job many times before. For whatever reason it was too big to fit in the bore. So was the Gorilla Tape initially.

Besides sockets, ratchets what are other must have tool for auto use in your tool box

One of my mechanics was working on an F350 not long ago doing that same seal job and our usual tool wouldn't fit. I asked him if there was any other way to drive the seal and he was adamant that there was no other way and he headed to the bathroom. I looked around and grabbed a roll of wide...

    Fairmount USA wrenches

My dad has a set of Fairmont offset wrenches. They've held up great over the years.

The tool picking rigs of Garage Journal

I once borrowed a buddies ford festiva to get a vortec 350 from LKQ in Redding, CA and bring it back to Grants Pass, OR. The guy at the yard refused to load it with a forklift. When he went in to get his boss I just did it myself. I strapped it in with the 2 rear seatbelts and called it good...

    Whats your favorite 'unique' tool?

They are actually pretty easy. One nut on each side and a bolt in the front is all you need to pull to move the engine as far as you need to go. A block of wood on the pan and you tip the engine. All is done with normal hand tools.

    Push button air couplers

No complaints with the Prevost. I see that there are a couple of ones that they offer. Just checking out my options.

    Push button air couplers

I need to find a durable single push button air coupler. It has to be 1/4" automotive style per corporate rules. New regulations have come out and we're having to change to the push button release. I've used the Prevost ones but I want opinions from people who have used multiple brands. I'm not...

    Harbor Freight Color Poll

The green, yellow and orange are all nice. The white almost looks sterile. Either way, a buddy of mine has a green snap on cart that he hates because of how easily it shows fingerprints so the lighter colors wouldn't be my choice. I actually bought a black cart and I need to finish preparing it...
