    "torpedo" summer storage

Thanks all for the input - I've learned my lesson more than once about draining fuel + running it out... more oxygen to react/degrade the inevitable bit that's left behind. Plus with a steel tank, yeah condensation and dust is probably my biggest enemy. Thanks again.

    "torpedo" summer storage

What's your method of summer storage for forced air heaters? I'm in MD and personally would be storing in an unconditioned shed. I strictly run K1. Last year I simply filled with fresh K1 and loosely bagged for dust/pests. Had no issues firing up last winter. How long is K1 tank stable? They...

Looking for advice on finish elevation

That's a good point I hadn't considered until now. For better or worse this region of MD doesn't get regular significant accumulation (or drifting to significant depths).

Looking for advice on finish elevation

Exactly. I should have been more clear but this is my main issue with the porch being that high: I don't have the room to the left to gradually (plans call for 5% for 10' out) grade out 9-12" without potentially smothering surface/feeder roots.

Looking for advice on finish elevation

Thanks for the reply. Correct, concrete slab under lean-to, to be poured separately/outside building. So let's assume porch concrete is set 1" lower than inside finish height, and I set inside finish height 6" above highest surrounding grade. That would put the front left corner of the porch...

Looking for advice on finish elevation

Hi folks - I hired an excavator to remove all organics and get me down to a solid, (close to) level base for my pole building. It's excavated 1ft over all around. I'm a little hung up on surrounding grade and where to set finish floor height. Front right corner is the highest surrounding grade...

Oh the irony - just jacked my jack

I gave this one last shot last night - I jacked and held my car overnight, so I'm confident at least the main piston seal is good, and the working valve's main check is seating. However I noticed for the first time ever, a bubble or two emerging from the pump piston on each pump. This may be...

Oh the irony - just jacked my jack

Looks like I'm still down on functionality. I first bled air by jacking fully up, lowering, then cracking the fill hole to release the air. Fluid level was still good - maybe 1/8" over the cylinder. Replaced the plug and followed the bleed procedure from below by closing relief, pulling up...

Oh the irony - just jacked my jack

Interesting, thanks! Just remembered that when I came back today to top off the reservoir, I nearly got a face full of hydraulic mist!

PS do you happen to have a mechanical or exploded of the internals? Electro-mech tech by trade, curious to see what it's composed of.

Oh the irony - just jacked my jack

Thanks for the verbose response. Good point, I have not rechecked. Just panicked a bit... :) I did not venture any further into any internals; didn't even fully remove working valve plug. For what it's worth I was extra careful to fully clean the surrounding area before removing. The only...

Roger that. Guessing my Father picked it up at a a Tractor Supply in PA.

Oh the irony - just jacked my jack

Well I just went out and feverishly pumped the handle to bleed for a solid 3-4 minutes, and it has improved dramatically. I'll need to wait until I can get the car in (and it not midnight) to see if it'll hold a load, but I think I might be out of the woods. Still curious to know what that plug...

Oh the irony - just jacked my jack

To be honest I sort of just assumed it's a Torin, based on my searches for 'Big Red'. :)
