    Sam’s Club -VS- Costco

We live less than a mile from a Sam's Club and have had a membership now mostly used for car batteries for years. The wife drives across town to Costco for most everything else. I avoid both at all costs.

Repurposing Wood from large antique Dining Table (veneered)

Doing anything at all with this table, even if it is nothing at all, is a no-win situation. Everyone will share their opinion on how what you've done has ruined it. You will probably get no help at all from any of those sharing criticism. Coffee tables, a smaller table or 2 with or without the...

Anyone interested in a shaper (aka, spindle moulder, Toupie, Tischfräse) conversation?

I'll follow along for the learning experience although I do not yet have a shaper.

25 yr. Old Compressor, Rebuild, New Pump or Replace? 2026

Following along this journey with you as I have a 60-gallon tank with a small pump that I would like to replace for improved cfm. Love the idea for integrating a soft start for both the compressor and the 5 horse table saw in my shop. The start up is sudden.

    Beginner wood lathe recommendation

Consider looking at a used mid-sized lathe from a quality manufacturer. You can make rings & pens on a larger lathe. You will likely outgrow the small lathe quickly if you use it much. Most used lathes will come with some accessories. You will quickly learn that the lathe itself is the cheapest...

"My take" on small footprint leveling casters.

I've got multiple sets of these urethane wheels on my shop machines. I really like that they make it easy to move machines around, they roll easily. What i don't like is that after 2-3 years the outer skin comes off the wheels and they no longer roll easily.

Wood Selection for Outdoor Deck Cabinet

Cypress, white oak, redwood, teak, Ipe are all good choices. Cost & availability will be the thing.

    Deck Gate

Set another post at ground level and have the gate down there. Perhaps with a couple of feet of paving stones to give your feet some room to stand on while you open/close the gate.

Recommend stain for outdoor cedar furniture?

I always heard the same but it cured much quicker than I expected on every piece of wood I've used it on. Mostly pieces turned on the lathe. Especially in the summer months. Temperature is a big factor.

Stanley #80 scraper prep and use

This is exactly what I needed to see. I recently picked up an older #80 but haven't yet learned how how to sharpen, set, or use it. Thank you for sharing!

Woodworking Forums-Any good ones out there?

Woodbarter is where I spend the most time for wood related topics these days. Not a true woodworking forum but a lot of knowledge is accumulated there. Lots of discussion about wood. I browse most of the others listed but rarely post and haven't joined them all. There is an old & long...

    Cleaning up an overgrown sidewalk?

Check out Midlife Stockman on YouTube. He has a whole series of videos cleaning up inner city sidewalks & abandoned lots. He uses a few basic and a couple of very specialized tools that get the job done quickly. He also uses an organized method and disciplines himself to starting & completing...

    Recommendations on Vehicle Dollies/Wheel Skates?

I had 2 sets of the Northern Freight versions. Gave one set away to a friend who intends to repurpose them and will give the other set away when the Mustang moves under its own power again. Will never brink home another set of them, too difficult to work with.
