Parallel jaw pliers, what are they good for, why a niche?

Well, Thanks to the combined deadly power of The Garage Journal, and eBay, I added a nice 8" Version of Sargent Parallel Pliers to the collection. It feels unusual enough to be handy for something.... I've had a 5" rusty / flaking chrome version for years, but never really used them because of...

    Snapon addon must haves?

No doubt! But, I'm trying to be "smart" and rationalize an extra $250 of tools!:pimpflash True. Personal responsibility is defiantly decreasing. In fairness, it was in a mixed lot of used tools, and broken when I got it, so I was surprised to see that, because a 4" long 1/4" drive ratchet...

    Snapon addon must haves?

Great call buying new on items more likely to need a warranty. I think the rebuild kit is $11, so $239ish! Easy to accomplish with Snap-on pricing once I pick a direction. The moral aspect of warranty abuse does bother me, but some blame should be placed on the companies for offering stupidly...

Pistol grip pliers for thoughts. Yes or no?

The needle nose version have been my go to for years, only using a straight handled version if access requires. But, this thread motivated me to order another pair of them!

    Snapon addon must haves?

Hey guys, I need a rebuild kit for a snapon ratchet, but free shipping starts at $250, so are there any must have / rare to find on the secondary market tools I should add to get free shipping? For context, I typicially buy snapon from ebay for a decent discount either new or lightly used...

    Decent tool set of 4x4ing

Looks like an awesome project! Thanks for the picture. It doesn't look like tool weight is a huge concern. I've currently been considering ditching 3/8 in situations like this from a space standpoint, even though 3/8 is my typical default. 1/4 and 1/2 metric ratchet sets long 1/2 breaker bar...

What do you guys use vise grips for these days?

As pinch off pliers when a heater core hose springs a leak. They, (the needle nose version) worked way better than expected, for an emergency parking lot "repair" It's not winter time so its all good! :pimpflash

    Tile Saw- Which One?

I bought the Ridgid tablesaw style tile saw, and have been happy with it through the few jobs I've used it on, especially for the price point. If nothing else, its easier to transport / store than the more common style with the motor / blade above the work surface. Smaller water reservoir so...

    Harry J. Epstein Day 2025

I've got a different brand of one, I think its Wiha. It felt handy, but turned out to be extremely rarely used. I keep ratcheting bit drivers handy, which typically can handle screws in bad locations, quicker than digging out a specialty tool. But, for $17 maybe I should buy one to keep with my...

    Harry J. Epstein Day 2025

Looks very similar to some Craftsman auto locking pliers (not robo grips) I had 20+ years ago. Tried to like them for a few years, but eventually gave them away. There's probably a use case, but I never found it. Though in fairness, I don't really use visegrips in general much.

    Chainsaw Sharpening

Wow, thanks for the good ideas guys. I'll buy the Stihl device a few of yall mentioned tomorrow, it's cheap enough to give it a spin. I'm probably more looking for a powered solution as well though. I've got more jobs pending, and a lot of this work is dirty / more likely to need a regrind...

    Chainsaw Sharpening

Hey guys, what's the thoughts on chainsaw chain sharpening? I've used the files for touchups, and used the Dremel chainsaw grinding stones in a M12 rotary tool. But, never felt like I achieved like new results. I see bench style sharpeners from $75 - 500ish. At $35ish per new chain, its got...
