I used to carry a ready-welder for offroad trips in my jeeps. Only had to use it a few times, but it saved the day when it was needed.

No idea about the weird colors. It's how it was when I bought it. Other one I have is red.
Looks like an awesome project! Thanks for the picture.

It doesn't look like tool weight is a huge concern. I've currently been considering ditching 3/8 in situations like this from a space standpoint, even though 3/8 is my typical default.

1/4 and 1/2 metric ratchet sets
long 1/2 breaker bar or ratchet
Set of metric wrenches
A few screwdrivers
1/2 dozen pliers
24" prybar
Jack
Worklight
Probably stored in a soft sided tool bag

This is what I did for the wife's jeep diesel rubicon. We live off road and she is a nurse so has to go to work in all weather conditions, plus we use it for going lots of places on and off road. I used to just take my main tool bag I keep in my main farm truck with us in the motorhome or other vehicles when we went somewhere, but I decided to buy a dedicated tool kit for her jeep.

I bought a 300pc kobalt set from Lowes, has 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drives, end wrenches (except a damned 9/16" wrench for some odd reason), bits as well for small fasteners. I then bought a tool bag to store it all in under the back seat.
