    The Machine Work Thread

My Deckel FP2 has boxed ways for the Z. Renown for being a highly accurate toolroom mill. Not sure I would put stock into boxed ways being inaccurate as another poster mentioned.

    Knife edge crank anyone? :dunno:

    Homemade gantry crane

I find my engine crane a complete PITA. It is anything but versatile. The width of the "feet" are way too narrow to clear the base of things like a pallet. Even getting them into position to lift an engine out of a car can be a pain. IMO a gantry is far superior. I am currently using a gantry...

very rude email response from Jean-Claude Cayer tools

Given the consistent nature of these complaints, it may be a better course of action to contact the manufacturers and make them aware. No manufacturer wants distributors being rude to customers. No distribution = no business for the Cayers.

fixing a crooked hole in a engine block need ideas

I vote for this. I would however mill a straight hole with a slot drill, and then put a "big-sert" time-sert in as the hole is likely going to be rather over sized. Time-serts are amazing, and have a really nice snug fit thread.

    header building blocks. (alternative)

Sorry superspec, I only pass through here from time to time. I missed this one. This is what I used to help me visualize and template the headers. I think I got it from the hardware store. Just some flexy down-pipe/drain pipe/vacuum hose. They hold their shape better than one expects. You could...

    header building blocks. (alternative)

I use cheap expandable plastic hose. Almost like vacuum cleaner hose. The stuff that can be compressed or expanded. Holds its shape well and allows you to conceptualise the design. Even take a "pipe" out and make a welding jig from it.

Part 2 how to clamp exhaust tubing

Hose clamps work great on sections with straight joins. If you cut through the radius of a 45 or 90 where the mandrel bend necks, you will see hose clamps do not work. When the diameters do not match the hose clamp does not grip both pieces. It grips the piece with the largest diameter. Best...

Part 2 how to clamp exhaust tubing

Re: Part 2 how to clamp exhaust tubingq I know your pain. I did a couple of mandrel bent systems. I had the same issues in that the curved pieces usually have mismatched diameters so the Strong Hand clamps, vice-grip style and the like do not clamp them effectively. That style of clamping is...

    BGS Technic country of manufacture?

Even though this thread of mine is fairly old, I am still irritated to see the same seller still listing items as "BGS Germany". The feedback for the seller shows some have been clearly mislead. Furthermore in the sellers feedback the Seller clearly states "All BGS technic Germany products are...

the Nepros brand hand tool thread

The chrome discussion might have been me. Unfortunately I had issues with Nepros chrome durability. Some of my Nepros tools rusted in my tool chest. Not badly, but they developed surface rust spots. I was very disappointed by this as in my own mind I was not sure it was possible with Nepros...

    Show us your machining projects.

I thought F117, but then thought "No can't be". It is pretty amazing that you made that piece for such a legendary aircraft. Kudos to you! What was the material? I also have an appreciation for your machine tools. Nice work!

Gold plated titanium Facom spanners for Mclaren F1

Lets hope that these Facom spanners are not made in Taiwan like some of their line.

    Trojan tools?

Yes. They are the ultra cheap-o tools that Bunnings sells alongside their famous Ozito range.. Expect all to be made in China. Or at best Taiwan (but I doubt it!) for some lines. Long stopped making tools in Australia. Much like Kincrome. Cheap garbage at best. Run for your life! It sounds...

the Nepros brand hand tool thread

I had to send some items back. The warranty was such that I had the replacements in my hands before I even posted the defective items.
