    Patching/replacing vehicle floor pans?

I have done lots of sheet metal work with .030 wire and a Millermatic 175. I will sheepishly admit that I never bothered to try welding on the lowest setting (1 of 10) and when I did, it left nice little welds with no burn-through. I could have saved a lot of time over the years by experimenting...

    torque wrenches with crows feet

I would think that a crows-foot wrench (the typical type) incrementally makes the torque wrench longer (by maybe 5-10%) and thus the torque values should be decreased by that amount. I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over correcting your values.

    Uses for old trash toters?

My brother is going to use it as a rain barrel. I'll attach pix next year after he fabs it up.

    Uses for old trash toters?

Thanks for all the suggestions! A rainwater collection device might be the best use, if it can handle the weight. W M doesn't want them back? I called them and they use a 3rd party to drop off/collect and this '3rd party' is a bunch of serious slackers. We tried multiple times and WM said to...

    Uses for old trash toters?

I have 2 clean trash toters (the 96 gallon ones you get from Waste Management). Any idea how these could be re-purposed? I was thinking you could drill a port in them and collect gutter water for a drip system (if you could hide the toter). They are too big and bulky to pick up as-is. If you cut...

    Is all square tube weldable?

Bed frames are hard(er) because it becomes work hardened when drawn and not annealed. It can be annealed where it is to be cut or drilled by simply heating it with a torch, even a propane torch. I tried that earlier this year, and it seemed to make no difference. Still very hard to drill. I...

    ARB bumper repair

Guaranteed expense up front, guaranteed hit to mileage, guaranteed extra wear and tear on front end, guaranteed heavier steering for the possibility it *may* help (may not) in a fairly unlikely scenario. Yes, and this truck has 262K on the original engine and transmission, and the trunnion...

    ARB bumper repair

This particular (old style FJ60) ARB is no longer in production. The current FJ60/2 model sits higher and blocks the FJ62 turn signals in the valence. This one was $450 used/bent, and a new one with tax is close to $1500. I read of someone having an entire bumper blasted and re-powder coated...

    ARB bumper repair

I cut off the old upright, straightened the support, and then fabbed and installed a new upright. I bolted it to the existing bumper, which solved the welding problem. Not perfect, but close enough. The powder coater put on a ton of satin black.

    ARB bumper repair

I tried an adjustable wrench on the (cold) bent metal - no way! The metal is too thick to easily bend that way. The FJ62 has 268K miles, bought it from a neighbor (original owner) and did some rust/paint/interior repair. Original engine and transmission, no leaks.

    ARB bumper repair

I bought an ARB bumper that was side-swiped by a minivan. The face piece (1.5" wide by 1/8" thick) is bent aside, and so is the support plate behind it. Fixing this would be easier if the entire bumper were not nicely factory powder coated - I'd just cut it all off and weld away. The bumper is...
