I had to open up the handset of a modern corded phone, and it was hilarious, they actually had a weight inside of it to make it feel heavier!

Why not take them to court? I would at least be having a lawyer sending threatening letters to try and scare them. $800 is a lot of money, and your case seems right for small claims. At least don't make it easy for them!

Yeah I know how to get it off but it will look just fine. And after we dry lay the tile to see for sure we can always still pull it if it will look better

We weren't because they are going to get destroyed, and I've seen how tiled floors look over the baseboard and it looks good because the grout takes up the space nicely,we could still change our mind but now with the cement board in place it would be even harder to pull
