    Mexican mini-split?

We use those in our rentals and I have one in my shop office. The one in my office is a Duventas, instructions were all in Spanish. They work fine and in general, I consider mini-splits throw away items anyway, it's almost always cheaper to swap one out than to repair it and it's definitely...

Electrical Guru's Please step inside - 200amp service

I see the following code violations in this box - 1 - Neutral doesn't have a white stripe on it, paint one or wrap some white tape around it. 2 - I'm assuming this is coming in from the meter can and that the ground rod is run into the can where it's bonded to the neutral. If that's the case...

Best Lighting Option For My Shop?

Agreed, 28,000 lumens won't be near enough. I'm starting at 60,000 with bright white walls and bare concrete and expect I'll find I need more. I have a 3 stage forklift so getting to my 16' ceiling is a trivial task, I just need someone to drive the lift truck and raise/lower me (don't tell...

Best Lighting Option For My Shop?

The idea is that if you're going to install 1,000 lumens that instead of installing 1 x 1,000 lumen fixture, you install 4 x 250 lumen fixtures to get better fill. There's math involved in figuring out how many lumens will be required to achieve a certain fc at a specified distance, it's sort...

    New electric service question.

What is the model on those disconnects and what did they run? My PoCo requires a disconnect outside, I want my breaker box inside. I found breaker boxes cheaper than safety switches so I'm putting in a MH passthrough load center to meet their requirement but, I'd rather have something like those.

Best Lighting Option For My Shop?

I agree, more fixtures, lower output each is preferred. That gives more even coverage, eliminates hot spots and shadows. I'm putting 6 high bay LEDs in my 40x50 to start but, I'm not convinced I won't ultimately end up with 8 or 10. This was one thing I did a lot when I was doing a lot of...

Best Lighting Option For My Shop?

fc is foot candles, which is how we usually measure things in the US, it's how much light we actually have available to us where we want it. LEDs will have different fc ratings than equivalent lumen output fluorescent, MH, etc. because LED's project the light in one direction instead of...

Best Lighting Option For My Shop?

That's true about CRI and actual color temp with LED, it can be all over the map. In my application, I'll be primarily a welding shop and some vehicle/equipment maintenance and repairs. I don't really care about CRI, I just need really bright lights that don't flicker or cause nausea. For the...

    Color temperature for woodshop?

Here is a photo I took at Lightfair a few years ago that demonstrates just how important CRI is in choosing your lights. All of these lamps were rated at the same color temperature but, they obviously had very different CRI's. The top left was traditional halogen and had the truest color. All...

    Color temperature for woodshop?

Incandescent is 2700ish with a fairly high CRI. There are a lot of issues with color temp with LED lights. The biggest being that when the color temperature was established, it didn't account for blue hue in the light and LEDs start blue with coatings added to get the warm white or other...

Best Lighting Option For My Shop?

I'm currently in the process of building a 40x50x16 and got these for it - http://www.ebay.com/itm/122286973471?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. I haven't installed them in the shop yet, the PoCo just set the transformer Monday and the meter set isn't scheduled until...
