Gerstner Lot Numbers, re. manufactured year

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback, Dave (I assume) or Mogan, lol. I wasn't planning on buying a Gerstner, but couldn't resist the $120 price. The only catch was that it is missing the front lid. Now, I know that we don't normally need that, but I also know its resale value plummets when it is...

Gerstner Lot Numbers, re. manufactured year

Thanks everyone for the Machinery's Handbook replies. I will finally buy me a copy to put I my #52 tool box. I picked up the tool box for cheap. I plan on restoring it a bit. It's good that the Gerstner website sells restoration stuff where I could get the right felt, handles, wood finish...

Gerstner Lot Numbers, re. manufactured year

Thank you for responding to my reply. Here are a couple pics. It doesn't look to everyone had holes on top, to me anyways. By the way, I read that the top center drawer was made specifically for Machinery's Handbook. I imagine the book got bigger with each new edition. Does anyone know if the...

Gerstner Lot Numbers, re. manufactured year

Hi, I appreciate your posting of this info. It seems my Gerstner #52 is a little different. By looking at the imprint, it was made in 1966, right? However, it has side handles, and no top handle. Perhaps you can give me your opinion. Thanks, Susan

    Delta Model 37-207 Jointer

Your jointer is beautiful. I have several vintage Delta machines. I love the color. Do you mind sharing any info on what color that is, or the color code to achieve the same color? Thanks, Susan

    Bandsaw Question

Hi, No, there are no cylinders on the backside. What bad thing will happen if I don't put on a cylinder or spring? Just looking to learn.

    Bandsaw Question

Hi, I picked up this tiny old horizontal bandsaw for super cheap off Craigslist. The brand is Bainbridge, and the saw uses a 60 inch blade. Even though the bandsaw is rusty, I like how lightweight it is. Perhaps it is a bad thing for it to be so light, I am not sure. Anyways, I noticed that...

    Bandsaw TPI

Doug, when you say, "go with a course tooth," do you mean go with less tpi? Or do you mean less variance in pitch? Forgive my ignorance, please

    Bandsaw TPI

Wow. Thanks guys! I really appreciate all the info you shared. So far, y'alls seem to be an awesome, friendly group of folk :-) I will try out Doug's detailed recommendation. Btw, on another note, I attended my first auction ever that was for a metal shop that had gone out of business. I...

    Bandsaw TPI

I found a cheap source for steel, and my little vintage Craftsman 101.07301 lathe only has 18" between centers so I must use bandsaw to cut long rounds

    Bandsaw TPI

Hello, this is my 1st post on Garage Journal. I was into woodworking, then decided to buy a metal lathe, and now I have the metalworking bug. Because my 1 car garage is super packed with equipment, including full size wood lathe and Jet Mill Drill, I picked up a smaller than usual horizontal...
