Botched the Manual J calc - can anyone share their AC tonnage experience?

Standard 2-car garage, approximately 20x24. R13 in walls and 2" foam between the exposed rafters. 24k mini split. Probably overkill but will maintain 72 on a 100+ degree day and recovers quickly after opening the door. Barely use the heat. If I want air blowing directly on me I just use one...

    Adding more power to garage?

I have two EVs (32a each) along with a welder, compressor, mini split, and small tankless water heater (5kw) on #2 AL and it's fine. The EVs charge at night when I'm not using the garage.

    Heat gun.

I've had two of them, both failed in less than a year in the exact same manner which sounded like bearing failure and caused horrible vibration. Upgraded to the Hercules and have used it for years with no problems. For little stuff like heat shrink or the occasional sticker removal, though, I...

need ELECTRIC right angle die grinder recommendations

I have the Ryobi, it's very powerful but also big, and I find myself using the $50 Hyper Tough 12v from Wal-Mart these days. I've never come across a situation where its power was inadequate, and I've actually been pleasantly surprised by the 12v Hyper Tough tools overall, although I don't use...

    Garage AC

I have a 24,000 btu mini split in a standard 2-car garage in southern California. Has no problem maintaining 72 out there in up to 110 degree weather, but yesterday it really struggled after pulling in a hot car that had been sitting outside to work on it. I would not go with anything less...

Thinking about installing mini-splits for my renovation job

I know our gas bill has essentially doubled from 2 years ago, originally we were only going to use the mini splits for cooling, but now the math works out for heating as well if prices stay what they are.

Thinking about installing mini-splits for my renovation job

    1. You can run everything and cap it off. Capping off the lines is important, as you absolutely cannot have any dirt/bugs in them, and even moisture could be a problem if you leave them long enough. 2. You can do it either way. Condensate pumps are a viable option, and the only way to do an...

    AC for cold weather use?

    Define "cold weather." Window fan?

Replacement of foam covering on lines?

Pipe insulation from Home Depot. Wrap with foil tape where exposed to the sun. Should never have a problem again.

    Should I consider a sub-panel?

I didn't either. But I've seen 70 amps or so charging two cars, mini split running, and using a table saw or something.

Ceiling / roof insulation for small shed

In OP's climate (hot and humid), it may not be an issue of cost savings. Without insulation, a window A/C may not be able to keep the place cool at all.

Do A/C refrigerant lines need to be in conduit when run indoors?

They can be exposed (but need to be insulated as others have stated to prevent condensation). Personally I cover mine indoors with white plastic downspout; it's cheap and easy to work with, and can be slid over already-installed lines if you cut the back open.

Anyone use asphalt and cork ac insulation on their mini split lines?

I can confirm that the Pioneer adapters include a copper "washer" (basically just a short piece of pipe that has been flared, and is shorter than the adapter itself). I've used them without leaks. Heat pump lines won't get anywhere near 200 degrees. For fittings or spots where I've cut or...

Anyone regretted installing mini splits on an old house?

No idea about heat; our issue here is keeping cool. Along with insulation (1930s house had none) and window replacement (crappy single-pane aluminum), we installed a total of 6 mini split heads (3 9k each on their own condenser for bedrooms, and 3 12k on a 36k condenser for kitchen, living...
