Auto bay sizing, with a lift

Depends on what you can deal with. My shop is 24x24. I have a lift on one side that is 4 inches from the wall. I couldn't sacrifice the ability to get 2 cars in for lift placement. I've had several crew cab shortbed trucks up on it and it's not the end of the world. My own truck is a RCSB so...

    Double check your insurance policy!!!

Same here. Mine doesn't take any **** about how we do. She is always defending me and always gives me the credit for us being comfortable. We don't make big bucks either, I just made a lot of smart moves in the past like buying our property cash during the last real estate crash and we live well...

    Double check your insurance policy!!!

I don't have any insurance. We have business liability insurance and that's it. Every story like this ends with somebody getting screwed over by an insurance company and getting nothing or pennies on the dollar. I don't even see the point. We could rebuild our home or business right now cash...

Move non running vehicles into garage?

I put the plow blade on my truck and push them in with it. For junker cars I just push against the bumper, whatever. For trucks I put a receiver in the hitch and push against the ball. For nice cars I ratchet strap a couple tires to the plow blade.

    Obviously done without a permit

The extension cord isn't a big deal. Probably should put the correct cover plate on the outlet, they are only like $1.

    The "Workshop Build" Financing Question

I saved and paid cash for everything, then built it myself. I pay for everything and don't use credit. Home took about 5 years to save for, new truck took about 2 years, garage took less than a year. Once you get the big things like a home and a reliable car without payments, you will find it's...

No heat for 5 days.. need advice on positioning of space heaters

Septic is supposed to be below the frost line. Mine isn't, probably from the previous owners who were hacks. Even then we have run faucets constantly at a trickle for weeks on end when it gets subzero. It's never frozen.

No heat for 5 days.. need advice on positioning of space heaters

We use a propane torpedo heater when we lose heat or power. They are relatively safe to run inside, just keep anything flammable at least 5 feet or more away from the outlet. It's what is used on construction sites before the heat is in. When the power is out we plug it into an inverter and run...

    mounting meter base

I just did one, it's just screwed into the sheating with lag bolts. Then I used a short pipe ****** with nuts, lined up the knockouts and put the breaker panel on the other side of the sheathing and lang bolted that into the wall studs.

    garage door frozen shut

I used to just kick it before I had heat. Now I just leave my electric heat on the lowest setting so it's about 40 in there all the time.

Methods to Resurect Lead-Acid Automotive Batteries

Nope. I replace them. Most batteries are around $100. It's worth that to not have to constantly mess with dead batteries in the middle of winter.

foil back rigid radiant insulation - metal garage door - which way?

I used 1" foil faced foam in my door. I have the foil facing the inside of the garage. With the shape of my door, I got about a 1/4" air gap between the outer skin of the door and the foam everywhere except the edges. It works great, i used to have ice on the inside of the door when heating. Now...

Space Saving Ideas for Small Garages/Workshops

Have a shed for all the **** you rarely use. When I built my new garage, my old small garage become the storage shed for all the junk. It's great, I just pile everything in there, shut the door and forget about it until next time. My new garage is always clutter free and easy to work in.

    Shingle fell out of place?

Yes, that is how I do 3 tabs. 4 nails per and below the sealant so the nail penetrates 2 shingles. That way you have 8 nails in each shingle and don't get blowoffs.
