Need some ideas. Temporary, inexpensive insulation

Thanks all for the help. The current plan is to seal up all the drafty cracks with duct tape, and enclose the area with plastic film. I will also enclose a makeshift 'cieling' with scrap cardboard. My only concern now is heating it without asphyxiating on carbon monoxide. :D

Need some ideas. Temporary, inexpensive insulation

Hey all, I'm looking for some creative ideas. I am renting a house right now, and the garage is large and drafty. I make a good amount of money working in the garage, and I need to come up with a plan to insulate and heat it on a shoestring. This would be a lot easier if I owned the house. I...

Yeah. A $10 mistake that still isn't even that much of a mistake. It's a neat little unit for my shop!

    todays haul... a machinist vice!

I got it for $10 so I don't feel like I got screwed on it. :) Maybe I'll attach it to my drill press just for shits and giggles. Thanks all for the quick replies.!

    todays haul... a machinist vice!

I was out huntin and pickin and I found this machinist vice that is 3.6415" wide  I don't know anything about it, but it's got two axis adjustment in 0.01" increments. The only thing bad about it is it's missing the axis control knobs and one of the axises only works in one direction...

    Vintage Thorsen Ratchet

I know it's a little bit of a thread resurrection... but I found a 1/2" Thorsen 77 ratchet in the basement... I love this ratchet, the mechanism is awesome and it feels so sturdy. I personally love the knurled handle. I used mechanix gloves and it grips really well and feels awesome. Definitely...

looking for quick reply: 3 hp air compressor 220v to 110v

I'm about to go buy an older (silver) craftsman air compressor from a guy on craigslist. it's a 3 hp and he says that the manual states it can be run on 220v or 110v but that it's currently setup for 220v. Does this seem reasonable to run a 3 hp compressor on 110v? I'm leaving to go look at it...

    Penetrating oil comparisons

Well, I used the "mixture" again today. Had to get header nuts off that were welded on with rust. My whole header was thick with rust too. I sprayed the mix on the nuts (ha ha), left for 30 minutes, came back, and took all the nuts off with a 1/4" drive mini ratchet no problem. No heat...

    Penetrating oil comparisons

I've never heard of anyone applying heat to the part after the penetrating oil was put on. The trick for me has always been to heat the part and then DOUSE it with the penetrating oil. This is a double edge sword because the heat wicks in the oil, and the oil quickly cools the part causing the...

    Penetrating oil comparisons

I put it in a plastic spray bottle. It's been in there for about a year. The spray bottle is fine but the little straw inside it is starting to look like this: I was having trouble getting the wheels off my uncles civic. I spent an hour hammering on after spraying the hub center with wd40, pb...

    Penetrating oil comparisons

Did you get that from Grassroots Motorsports? I heard about it from that site and I've been using it ever since. PB blaster, wd40, liquid wrench don't have **** on 50/50 atf/acetone mix. If you spray a heavily rusted part with it... you will see smoke/vapor rise from the part. It's pretty...

old garage one 2 prong outlet, one three prong GFCI outlet

I'm working in an old garage that was built in the 1940s and has an electrical system that seems just as old. The garage only has one set of two 2-prong outlets, and one set of two 3 prong GFCI outlets. I want to expand the number of 3 prong outlets that I have available without running into...
