3/8" drive good enough for all automotive maintenance provided a long enough breaker bar?

I hear ya brother. I used to sit inside the fender well of an Oldsmobile 98 with my feet on the exhaust headers, and had room to spare to service plugs, points, carburetor, fuel pump, everything. And I was 6 ft tall at that time. That car wasn't mine, but it had a 460 cubic inch "Rocket" motor...

3/8" drive good enough for all automotive maintenance provided a long enough breaker bar?

The lower control arm to strut assembly on a recent generation F150 is 460 ft lbs. Most shops don't bother with a 3/4 in drive torque wrench, but you can't do that with a 3/8 without instantly twisting it off, and a 1/2 drive is questionable. Even though most shops don't torque it manually to...

Koken Attack Driver - updated design - weird O-Ring under striking cap

I'm looking at it, and all I can think, is WTH ?? My guess is it has a purpose, I can't see Koken putting an O ring in any place without a purpose, but I'm not up on Koken personally, but I've been studying their excellent line of products of late. This will be interesting.

November 2022 tool truck sightings thread.

I see a Snap-on truck(s) about once a week, don't know if it is the same or multiple trucks, I suspect multiple. I see a Matco truck once in a while, but I know him, I've bought some very nice tools from him, he's a super dude. There is a MAC truck that comes to my workplace once per month or...

    Impact sockets on hand ratchets

I don't have many impact sockets, but qqzj is right about chrome hand sockets being thinner. I use mostly chrome hand sockets, and besides being thinner, I THINK they transmit torque a little more smartly when using by hand compared to my "softer" steel impact sockets. But I don't the real...

Dehumidify your Garage IF... Install a low-cost Dehumidifier in your Garage if your high-humidity summers are damaging your tools. Old Battery Chargers…keep, toss, repurpose?

Repurpose to rust remover ? Check. Continue using charging batteries ? Negative. Ditch and upgrade to modern computer-chip staged/auto charging models. I bought a new modern automatic model, COULDN'T BE HAPPIER with the new technology charger, it's really amazing how they work, and much better...

What about coaxial rotation design chrome hand tool universal joints and sockets ?

Hi Mechanic. Yes I believe the traditional design is: 1. Stronger, because two pins go all the way trough the piece, versus 4 pins for which none of those pins go all the way through the tool. 2. The big boys, like your SK set pictured above, along with the rest of the pro-grade hand tools...

Which is your favourite GM/Terminal side post wrench.

I don't know, but my guess would be on Lang tools, based on past experience with that brand, which I find to be generally outstanding.

What about coaxial rotation design chrome hand tool universal joints and sockets ?

Hey guys, I just learned about a better design for universal joints and universal sockets, featuring "coaxial rotation", aka constant velocity u-joints. I know of one Japanese tool company who makes this type of universal joint in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch drive, but the great Tekton Tool company...

European overalls are so well designed

Let me splain more about what I really meant. It's true I wouldn't wear them to work, but it's also true that those lines of European and Scandanavian manufactured work clothing are most definitely superior to American made workwear. I used to hunt a lot and found the hunting clothing and gear...

Ratchet handle stiffness vs elasticity vs deformation

Specifically he said it was permanent plastic deformation, and he was disappointed it bent, considering the brand of the tool. He was not boasting in any way, he was pissed that he could ruin a 1/2 Metco breaker bar without (apparently) abusing it. It's confusing for sure.
