    Dewalt 14.4V tools

There are frequently replacementa that are NiMH available. They hold a bit more energy but for a homeowner the biggest benefit is they still have a usable charge after sitting for a month unlike NiCd.

    2 Sluggo's Garage

I'm only on page 62 and still trying to catch up so sorry if this has already been covered. Does Lapeer only run 1/8 mile now? It was 1/4 mile when I ran in the early '00s. The shutdown area was pretty sketchy though. Even getting my mostly stock 95 Mustang GT at 100mph was pretty bouncy...

Let's talk insulation in non-climate controlled shops

Even if you don't plan on climate control now the insulation is cheap to install now and very expensive to install later. And if you do install it a mini split is pretty easy to add later.

Concrete uneven under roll up door. Cost to add more concrete.

I second replacing the under door seal with one that's thicker.

    leaf spring storage

Build a tree for them. I built one for differentials with a couple of vertical 2x6 sitting on a pair of HF furniture dollies.

    Spray Foam/Condensation Beware

Think about the temp diff across the insulation. If it's 0 outside and 70 inside and the fiberglass and foam have the same R value then the temp at the interface is 35. Since he didn't use a vapor barrier in the wall and the foam is effectively a vapor barrier to outside the dew point at the...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT My 16 x 24 in Michigan

Enjoy the weather or did it rain on you? It got up to 58 here and did sprinkle a bit around sunset. I grew up SW of South Bend (Walkerton) and have worked around Detroit for most of the last 20 years so I've done the run up 31 many times.

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT A new lease on life: 30x40 schoolhouse conversion

I also vote for rebuilding the bell cupola, when it's reasonable to do. And with a new kid and a house addition planned that will probably be way down the list. And other projects are certainly welcome.

Why Battery Side Doesn't Matter Much on Milwaukee M18 Impacts

The first 2 M18 batteries I got with my impact driver won't work in my 1st gen 1/2" impact. I have another pair of batteries that are identical, except for the keyway and they work fine.

Hobby level, but heavy hobby level plasma & tig

From reading the article about welding 7075 it seems it just is a special filler rod, no special process or other equipment.

Above 1200 Sq/FT Out on Quaker Road

I also have a kindergartner named Alyssa. Good to see the kids out in the shop. 42" isn't that big of a monitor. I had 4 ~20" monitors hooked up to my old work laptop. Then they replaced it and the new one could only handle 3 monitors, including the laptop. I do a lot of work where I'm...

    Concrete Cookie for Pole Barn

When they did mine they just dumped 2 bags in each hole, dry.

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT 3rd time's a charm with a 3 car workshop

I forgot about the mini split. Very similar experience. Called 5 shops, only one would respond and he wanted $9k. I responded that I could buy the unit for $1500, his response was that he was quoting a Mitsubishi, which I had already priced at ~$2500 and if was going to take 3 man days for him...

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT 3rd time's a charm with a 3 car workshop

Finished reading through it. I've been out in that area a bit, I used to crew for a race shop out of Topeka (he started in Papillion) and we raced at what used to be Mid America. Good call on the electrical. I did mine the same way, first outlets are GFCI, doubles and on opposite phases so if...
