What you describe is only used in industrial settings and is designed for 480v and high current applications and is stupid expensive. No way that expense would make sense in a home shop.

The purpose for mine is to provide shade; in the form of 2 shade sails that will be installed between the beams in the summer. They will be removed for winter to avoid snow loads.

I thought I would provide an update on this project. It's all complete now and I'm very happy with how it turned out. So far it hasn't fallen over :)
