    Unistrut hoist

Sorry I missed some of the posts asking for a follow up. I added the extra bracing in the trusses as shown below. The thing works like a charm, doesn't even flex when I put what I'd anticipated as a typical weight. It is going to make doing this track change much easier or any other tasks...

    MaxJax floor repair

I used the wedge anchors as designed, hammered them in and then pulled them up so they "wedged" in place. I also coated the sides of the hole I drilled and the sides of the anchor before I hammered it in.

    MaxJax floor repair

So to follow up on this I think I figured out what happened. That corner that pulled up was on the back end of the vehicle so had the most force in tension. I'm betting I didn't get the wedge anchors tight enough so it pulled up slightly in the hole. Since I also used epoxy, that top piece of...

    MaxJax floor repair

Install went smooth, I barely had enough floor thickness, 5" towards the outside lift and 4.25" on the inside lift. I used epoxy with the wedge anchors to give it an extra bit. Of course after I get done using it for the first time I find this .... Other than cutting a big chunk out and...

    Unistrut hoist

Thought I'd update the group. Not quite done, but I'm close. The cross beam is ~44" of P1001 and I'll put the hoist on that. Its supported by those two 10' P1001 sections. Then each of those are connected by 1/2" rod next to every truss to another 10' piece of P1001 and I was able to engage...

    Unistrut hoist

Lots of feedback from everyone, I appreciate it. When I said 1000lbs earlier, that was definitely more than I'll ever pick up. The motorcycle only weighs 530lbs and the snowmobile is about 640lbs. Picking up one end of of them can't be more than 60-70% of the total weight. Keep the input...

    Unistrut hoist

I'm building a unistrut hoist and hanging it from my trussed garage roof. It will be used to work on power sports, like suspending a motorcycle when replacing forks/shocks or to lift the back end of a snowmobile up when taking out the rear skid. I know it's not favorable to hang weight from...

    New tool chest combo recommendation

I'm glad you like the Montezuma. It's hard to find a review on them from people that weren't "encouraged" to review them positively. I just googled the part numbers and I found a distributor. Doubting the price I sent an email and got back what seams like a legit response.

    New tool chest combo recommendation

Still haven't pulled the trigger, I have analysis paralysis haha. After looking and the Masterforce chests I really do like them, but the shipping cost kills it. On this forum the Montezuma chests seam to be viewed as good, just overpriced. Is that based on the msrp or the real world price...

    Shed floor loading

I'm finally upgrading the push mower for a zero turn and want to store it in my shed. The shed is a 10'x10' that we built the floor using PT 2"x6" 12" o.c. and then two staggered layers of 1/2" Plywood. That whole frame then sits on a 10'x10' perimeter box made of 4"x4" PT that had 3' metal...

Max door size for load bearing wall

The garage that it's attached to is a 30'x40' that is trussed partially with attic trusses and partially with normal trusses and uses 2x6's for wall construction. The 30' gable end of the existing garage has a 9' &15' door. The addition will attach to the 40' side. I've attached a picture of...
