This is the insight I needed. So, do you think switching the first section of aluminum tubing with some heavier mild steel tubing would help? What about the anchor point on the ceiling itself? I was thinking maybe fashioning it out of metal as well might help, although I can't rationalize why...
After looking at it again today, I think that's what I'll end up doing. The single bungee going directly vertical up to the ceiling works pretty well to stop any up and down movement, so i think making two more ceiling anchor points at the sides might do the trick, although it will be a bit...
When I built the first version out of wood and it was falling under the weight of the camera rig, I actually did put some thin rubber washers in between the joints, and it didn't really do much. Ironically, I think it made it a little worse. Then I tried small pieces of all purpose duct tape in...
Thanks for the input!
It holds pretty well after i wrench on each joint. The star knobs were a good idea in theory, but they are very difficult to get enough leverage on to really crank things down.
I had not thought of using struts. Sounds interesting. How would you recommend attaching them...
Hello all,
I've built an extendable camera rig for filming my restoration projects out of wood and lightweight 3/4" aluminum tubing, and a ball head camera mount. Ive attached my cellphone holder to the mount, which has a small microphone attached.
I attached the arm to the ceiling via a...
I'm restoring a floor model Rockwell drill press model 1124 which i am pretty sure its almost identical to the 15-081.
This was a barnyard machine. Covered in grime and rust, and not taken care of well, at all. The table was broken and bolted to a janky weld up job, among other half-a**...
Unfortunately I haven't gotten to the job yet. I got side tracked rearranging my tiny garage because of the nice weather. I plan on tackling the press first thing once I'm done putting the garage back together.
I will be filming/documenting the process, so if I get it done and edited before...
Thanks for the information, that will help me out a lot! I ordered a set of jt6 wedges off ebay from a different manufacturer. They are probably 2x's the thickness of the jacobs wedges, but I think that works to my benefit.

I'm restoring a floor model Rockwell drill press model 1124 (pretty sure its almost identical to the 15-081, but im not sure, cant find a manual for it). Before I get started, I'd like to get an idea of what I'll need to order so I'll have it ready to go.
Below is a picture of the chuck. Its a...
That is an excellent idea! I have actually been looking around for a good lift/lift assist idea for the table, and was considering using the counterweight method. I'll have to check this one out as well, thanks a lot.
I've just purchased a 15" delta rockwell floor drill press model 1124 (very similar to the 15-081 model) that I plan on restoring. The table was broken by the PO.
I'm looking for a new table and post bracket mount with hardware. The column diameter is 2.75.
Anyone know where I can get my hands...
Thanks for the info. Ill check that out today.
I can't seem to find a manual for the 1124 anywhere. I've checked all over Google and vintage machinery. I was thinking it might be the same as the 15-081 but when I checked the range of models that manual covers, the 1124 isn't listed.
