    Lathe on craigslist

Hey, I am a nice guy but not that nice. I have bought several Southbend lathes for that money. Granted they needed work but your starting out with a better machine. The right deal will come along if you wait. _

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Here is a Parker 272 I picked up at an antique shop for $120. It's in great shape and it even has the original wrench for the nut on the bottom which I have never seen before. The patent date is December 10th 1867. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Not sure if I should use as is or make it...

Keeping Bugs/ Spiders Out of Garage?

Hire a Pest Control company and let them deal with it. Have them come out quarterly and problem should be solved. If I was a closer I would give you a deal as I own a pest control company here in Michigan.

im wanting a lathe but is this one worth my time?

I think it's worth the money. It has a micrometer carriage stop, the v-belt pulleys are fairly uncommon. If itdidn't work out it could be parted out for more than you paid for it. It is a project.

looking at picking up a craftsman/atles 618 6 inch metal lathe

Good choice. Look for a South bend, Logan, ect...... Much better machines and way more rigid for cutting steel.

    Lathe help. Brand?

Could be a Clausing before Atlas bought them out. Also kind of looks like it could be a Logan. All of the Atlas lathes had flat ways except for the re-badged Clausings early in the merger.

    Southbend Model C good deal?

The quick change gear box isn't a problem but lack of change gears is. Although they are easy to find they would set you back around $200-250. Add that to the price of the lathe and it isn't such a good deal. I wouldn't pay more than $350-400 for that machine.

    milling machine

I had and used a round column bench top for years. Some pretty good work can be done on them and I used it for gunsmithing duties and various other projects. I sold it last summer when I purchased my Clausing 8520. It is frustrating to have to move the column up or down and losing your set up...

Cool looking old machinery / tools?

Go get it. It looks like a 12" saw. I think it may be a Craftsman badged Walker Turner. Probably made in the 30's.

    South Bend 9" Lathe questions.

I think $1000 may be a little high. I think its a $750-$800 machine. Don't let the worn paint, dried oil scare you off. Check the bull gear, back gears for missing teeth. Check the bed close to the head stock for wear. Run it through all the speeds, check all the feeds and if you like it get it...

Fair price- SOUTH BEND Lathe from old timer

That is a nice lathe I think at a $1000-$1200 you would be getting a great deal. It looks well tooled, it has a taper attachment, milling attachment, thread dial, etc.... It also has the v-belt pulleys which makes it a 16 speed. If it did turn out to be worn out (I doubt it is) you could part it...
