Burns Projects that will never be finished

Nice thread man. A lot to read, so I'll have to come back and check it out. In any case, its always good to have a passion and follow it.

Roof coatings for asphalt built up roof?

Old Thread....But I figured I would respond anyway just in case someone also was wondering what Zeke was asking. FWIW, Zeke is right that the Henry stuff is okay, but it's a low end product. GACO make top notch silicone coatings. It is what was recomended by the Spray Foam Contractor who I...

Is it worth building now? Construction materials cost.

Wow. It’s been a couple of years since I purchased a lot of lumber. After reading some of the above posts about lumber costs.... I’d be looking at some of the metal buildings on EBay. Lots of DIY kits for the straight walled metal building kits from SIMPSON, DuroSPAN, Outback and Hercules...

Texas Power what a Cluster -Generator to save the day

By the way...windmills work fine in North Dakota and Sweden. It’s called weatherizing the system.

Texas Power what a Cluster -Generator to save the day

The Texas power grid failure is a perfect example of why regulations sometimes are a good thing. If the natural gas pipelines were buried a little deeper then the gas generation electric plants wouldn’t have had to shut down. That attitude of we don’t need no stinkin regulations is just dumb...

    Re-Arching leaf springs

The spring shop in New OrleAns that archs and builds springs has a damned large furnace. I’d go to a spring shop.

    Drilling through concrete like refractory

Personally....I find hammer drills do a much better job at drilling in any masonry. Hardly ever worried about overheating with hammer drills. The cheap harbor freight sds works great and comes with a decent set of masonry bits. I’ve had two. First one died after going under flood waters after...

Mini Split or Conventional Forced Air

I think you’re going to find the single mini splits are considerably less expensive than multi-zone units. For a shop.... I’d go with lowest price generic units on EBay. A single zone generic heat pump @ 600.00 on EBay. The multiple zone units are around 2000.00 If you need more cooling...

New Toy - Single Post Lift

http://www.bestbuyautoequipment.com/ATD-Tools-7440-2-Ton-Tripod-Underhoist-Stand-p/atd-7440-02.htm I'd feel better with FOUR...That's 4 of these under the vehicle. And I'm speaking as a person who had a car fall on me. I'm lucky I'm here today.

My Build: 30x40 in south florida!

Beautiful build. Fantastic shop. I scanned all the pages and must have missed the height. I did count about 25 courses of block....8" per block plus 25" for mortar....@ 225" ..So I'm taking a stab of about 20' high. ?? Anyway...how high are your side walls?

    South Louisiana Garage Conversion

I think that would work pretty good. You'll have columns...But so what. And since you can get glulams now fairly reasonable...You should be able to have a pretty nice set up.

    30x40 pole barn

yea...Throw a rope over the building. Make a half assed ramp out of 2 x 6's going from ground to roof. If you have 2 people...You could use your extension ladder with one person pulling and the other guiding and pushing as the tin goes up. Get some C clamps and for starters..clamp about 4...

    The Ex-Files--acid sharpening dull files

Just been reading up on this acid sharpening process. I just wanted to add that if anyone does this...Try to use sulfuric acid. Or I think you can also use acetic acid...AKA-Vinegar. Some of the other acids such as Hydrochloric acid (or Muriatic ) will cause Hydrogen embrittlement. And that's...

    Using an existing slab

Seems to me that a properly built and maintained pole barn will last well over 100 years. But...the key is to maintain it and that includes making sure that water does not collect at the base...Especially where the poles meet the ground. Proper drainage and a little Boracare or Timbor should do...
