Tractor Supply Black Diamond medium coal slag

Works good on rust. used it in my HF pressure pot thing. The HF blaster needs some mods to stop clogging, however.

Milwaukee vs. DeWalt “Winter” glove comparo

I use similar gloves, "wondergrip" full dip when logging in the snow, and sometimes for moving firewood. I find them the best for working with choker chains, winch cable, chainsaws in the snow, and the rubber dipped gloves are the stickiest for picking up and stacking firewood. They are not...

School me on cutting board construction

On the thickness question: I made a 7/8" thick 10x14" hard maple edge grain board about 15 years ago and it's still going strong. It's made of 7/8" square x 14" long strips. It sometimes has very small bow in it. It'd call it a success. It's a nice size and weight.

    Mini backhoe perhaps?

I don't understand how a towable backhoe, or even a 1t mini excavator will unload a 8' truck bed of anything. I'd say dump trailer and a stand-on loader (Dingo). Or skip the dump trailer. Aggregate delivery is pretty cheap all things considered.

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

I found the hammered paint pretty tricky. First mistake was only thinning 10% with xylene for spraying HVLP. Really needs something more like 50%. I was also having some problems with my pressure regulation setup. I eventually got it thinned enough but not before I put alot down that then I...

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

Working on repainting the box on this one right now. It's been sitting in my sop for only 2 years waiting to get refinished before I start using it. Normally I would just send it with the patina, but it was pretty rusty on the top. Sandblasted and primed it yesterday.

New to me Vintage Craftsman tool box

I love when the Craftsman boxes still have those stickers on them. Very nice.

1 or 2 Bolts and fasteners that Ace doesn’t have--- where do you go next?

Belmetric is another place that sells by the single bolt. They have alot of specialty stuff for euro or asian cars. I also use McMaster and Bolt Depot. Often the pricing doesn't work out with McMaster if I don't need much, due to the minimum quantities and relatively high shipping cost...

What crimper is used on these **** connectors?

My experience is the hexagonal dies don't work well with the seamed **** connectors - they tend to blow out the seam. YMMV.

What crimper is used on these **** connectors?

I mostly use seamless parallel **** splices now with a Rennsteig PEW 9 with hexagonal dies. Parallel **** splices are a bit tricky to execute but the end result is neater and more compact.

    Waste oil storage/tank

I like the idea. How about you cut the top off and add a recessed grate for draining pans, filters, funnels, etc. The ball valve would make it easier to fill 5 qt jug up too. I take some of my oil back in the 5qt jugs because the disposal options are more convenient, but filling them can be a mess.

Making tools, part of a well rounded college education

One of my elective classes as a Mech. E. major was a 2 semester manufacturing class. The whole idea was to make a small run of a product, using various manufacturing techniques. We made 500 travel checker sets. It included plastic injection molding, metal die cutting, vacuum forming, CNC post...

    Heat gun.

I have the PC1500HG. Died on me a few weeks ago after 9 years. Not bad, though I am a bit bummed. Heat guns do seem to have more finite life than other tools.

    Sewing machine recommendation?

We picked up a "vintage" Bernina 930 Record Electronic a year ago. It's not industrial, but it's all metal. It does fine sewing patches on my insulated duck overalls. The old school Swiss quality is nice. Not exactly a budget option though, unless you stumble upon a good deal like we did.

    Brush Cutter/Bush Hog Options

The tow behind mowers work well for UTV/ATV trails and fields are fast, but they are pretty clumsy for any sort of detail work. The ones with 2 casters, 2 wheels, and floating deck are tough to back up. You can run them offset when it's possible, but otherwise, you'll have to first drive over...
