Fastener size for steps to outdoor deck

I am installing three replacement stair treads at my cabin. These stairs go from ground level to the porch. One set has two steps, and one set has one step. The stringers are made from round logs cut in half lengthwise so it is half round, half flat. The stair tread itself is 4 X 10...

Advice on buying a new Mig Welder

I've had good luck with my Primeweld TIG machine and will buy their MIG machine when the time comes. They also have excellent customer support with people based in the US. https://primeweld.com/products/mig180-mig-welder-with-spool-gun

Drum switch to instant reverse motor

This was the case with the drum switch on my Logan lathe. If it was running, flipping the switch the other direction didn't do anything.

New to machining, is lathe tooling interchangeable

Tooling is a pretty broad subject. Chucks are tooling. Steady rests are tooling. Dial indicators are tooling. Etc, etc. Some tooling is more expensive to acquire then others. For instance, a 4 jaw chuck or a collet chuck could be $300 to $1500 depending on the quality and size of the...

    sink strainer install question

I am replacing the sink strainer in my kitchen. I've done this a few times but I do have a question. The style I have uses a rubber gasket, a steel washer and then a threaded collar that clamps the washer, gasket and sink strainer together, capturing the sink. Obviously with plumber's putty...

Having a brain freeze on assembling Unistrut

Yeah, that would do it. I still have a lot of 2X6 from the pallet that the lathe was on for all of the shelve supports. I will be moving forward with something like this. How do we feel about screwing the support on wall, over the sheet rock? I don't think it should be a problem but I might...

Having a brain freeze on assembling Unistrut

Not yet but I will. The local to me scrap yard has quite a pile of warehouse racking. I would have to figure out how to cut it down to the width I need but it's probably not impossible to do so.

Having a brain freeze on assembling Unistrut

I will look around to see if that is available locally. If so, then it solves that problem. I am using strut on 4 sides as I will storing lathe chucks and stuff like that on the lower shelves. My OCD to have all 4 sides of the shelves supported.

I built a reloading bench using those brackets and it works like a champ. I will consider this approach. Thanks.

Having a brain freeze on assembling Unistrut

I want to make a tall, narrow rack system for my garage. It will fit between the two garage doors. It will be about 7' tall, 24" wide, 20" deep. With 4 shelves. I will be using 4 legs, as the top shelf needs to hold 250 lbs of rotary phase converter. The legs will sit on the concrete to...
