    Advice on new shop?

Double the size. I went 36x48... wish I had went larger. Wife doesn’t like the sound of an annex. :-D

I had to put them in my detached. Unless the outlet was >66” off the ground, :-). Guess where some of my outlets are.

Shearwall Needed? Or just good sheating?

I am building a woodshop inside of my pole barn / workshop. Quick history... The pole barn is 48’ x 36’ with laminated poles (3 - 2x8’s) set on 8’ for the sides and ~9’ on the ends. Poured a concrete floor last year at 5” thick, 5000 PSI, and rebar. No cracks in the concrete and it was sealed...

Everyone ready for the "Drywall vs OSB" weekly thread?

I went with 8' of OSB with 8' of drywall on top of the OSB. I wanted the ability to hang things anywhere I wanted. The durability is nice but as said if you are decently careful you wont ding drywall too bad, you can always step up to thicker drywall for more durability (5/8" v. 1/2"). I don't...

The Dog House build in CO (48x36)

Long time no post. In reality, no real action happening on the shop. Work sent me abroad for large chunks of time in 2017, when I was home other tasks too priority. This winter the wife nudged me back out to the shop and said I should get to finishing it. Early December I started hanging the...

The Dog House build in CO (48x36)

The posts are 3 - 2x8's actually. I was told over 14' they had to step up from 3 - 2x6's to the 8's. They are not small or light.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

changed the oil in my Wrangler, the wife's Grand Cherokee, and did the back brakes on my moms car. Tried to replace the pinion seal on my rear axle of the Wrangler... but I didn't have a 1-5/16 socket to get the nut off. So it sits on jack stands waiting.

    Recycled concrete

I put 160 tons under the slab for my pole barn and ~4" for the large parking pad next to it... I did it in ~4" lifts with a plate compactor, then a roller for the last compaction. Then lots of snow melt and rain. It was damn tough to dig out for the vertical insulation and conduit under it. I...

The Dog House build in CO (48x36)

Order matters... :-( The garage doors were installed and look awesome! The guys took 2 days to get installed. Overall I learned... hire out the hard stuff! After the installation... the doors are HUGE! Kids for scale.

The Dog House build in CO (48x36)

After hanging 1/3 the drywall for the scissor trust section the wife decided that it would be better to see the trusses and hang drywall between the trusses with a little insulation behind the drywall. This choice may have been pushed by the high lift doors extending into the ceiling section...
