Have just thrown this together for a mate's Easter gig between mucking about with the potbelly. Got my hands on some old railway hardware!! Makes pretty good feet for a basic brake drum fire pit.
Thanks guys. When I've done gas bottles in the past I usually cut as far as i can with the grinder then finish the corners with with a hacksaw. Being 17mm thick, this is gonna take a while! Thought about drilling holes in the corners but i want to use the piece i cut out as a door.
So being the guy with limited tools - pretty much grinder, welder and a cordless drill - would drilling a series of holes around the lower part of the drum(say 50mm from the base) do the trick?

Does it need 'vents' in the base to let air in under the fire or will a sealed base work? I have a larger drum but was going to put a plate in to seal the bottom.
