    Official Epstein's Day 2015 Thread

    Can't help but brag - this showed up on the porch today: <a href="http://s802.photobucket.com/user/toolusinganimal/media/KIMG0032.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy303/toolusinganimal/KIMG0032.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo KIMG0032.jpg"/></a> Inside, the...

    Which pocket-hole jig

I've got a Kreg K4 kit, but I wish I had the vacuum attachment and clamp. I use it for just about everything now. Pocket holes and glue make a joint that really holds up. My first big project is this bookcase, which I'll probably get around to staining this weekend. Ignore the uneven top, it...

    Craftsman BE cleanup with pics!

I bought this ratchet for $5 over the weekend, and I couldn't wait to show and tell . When I first picked it up, I thought "What the hell's a Raftsman?" Dummy :lol_hitti. I had to have it! The front: I opened it up when I got it home. The grease didn't age well. The head was...

    Little old city garage

Jason; No, the cistern is still a mystery. I'll have to do more work over there before long, though, so I'll look into it then. Thanks for looking! If I can help with your tools, let me know. I got the bearings in, and they dropped right into the ram. I tightened the rings down on them...

    Little old city garage

Thanks, everyone. I haven't been idle  I took the spindle apart and it turns out that I need new bearings. Not at all because I crushed one of them getting it out . It turns out that they aren't press-in, there's a threaded retaining ring that holds each of them in. Turn that...

Share Your Epstein's Day Purchases Here

Here's my order: Long and short funnel (VERY nice!), 12" Wilde pry bar that I've already gotten the chance to abuse, 3/8 Wright ratchet from the sale section (needs oil, but it's very nicely made), free pliers :D, thread file, nail setter, large, medium, and small Grace handles, a bunch of...

daus300b: Hey, drill press brother . I'm a mechanical guy, so most of the time I remove the paint by mechanical means: These, and the wire wheel on my bench grinder, have been my bread and butter in this project. I figure any paint that survives that is tough enough to stay there...

How About This: Buy From Epstein's Day?

Darnit, I was keeping it under $100 until I saw those drills. Oh well :D. Happy 4th!

Odis, that's a good idea! You also reminded me of something. I lost the pictures I took of the finished plane before I posted them, but I had coated the handles with paste wax like Shoottx recommended and reassembled everything. To make it really slick, I also coated the sole with paste wax...

The fun part - Reassembly! If you look close... I scraped and sanded the excess paint off half of the base. Sanding very lightly left a nice finish. Cleaned up... I coated the bare metal, including the column, with nu-finish. I guess that officially makes me a tool polisher :D...

    Service Cart

+1 again for the HF box. I have one, it holds all the tools I need and it's pretty sturdy. I was looking for workbenches the other day for work, and I noticed that Global Industrial has their own brand of sliding-top tool cart, very reasonably priced. I don't know much about it, but the...

    Little old city garage

Well, at least I've done something in the last two weeks. Never as much as I intend to, though. I painted the base, top and bottom. I'm going to clean the paint off the top surface and try a coat of nu-finish to help keep the rust off for a while. I really like the way this paint is coming...

Kevin54 and HSpencer; I avoided that question on purpose, sorry about that :o. There are few enough of that type of building in the city that if I said what it was, it would be easy to find me. Sadly it's not one of the old textile factories around here. I love those old buildings, and it...
