Craftsman BE cleanup with pics!

I bought this ratchet for $5 over the weekend, and I couldn't wait to show and tell .

When I first picked it up, I thought "What the hell's a Raftsman?" Dummy . I had to have it!

The front:

I opened it up when I got it home. The grease didn't age well. The head was full of grit and bits of the teeth, but none were broken off. When I've outlived my creators, I hope I still have all my teeth.

Clean and shiny.

I thought it was interesting that the selector slides in-out instead of back and fourth. The little cam slot in the plate changes the direction.

Ready for another 60+ years.

I have a BE 1/4 inch breaker bar in my drawer. No idea where it came from.

I have one smilar to that but the selector is traditional and moves side to side but it is missing the ball detent for the selector switch. I'll add pictures when I get home later.

I never really understood why some folks would use ratchets as hammers, but I guess that if you grew up with ratchets like that one, it would be a pretty easy habit to fall into. That selector is totally rad -- there's a bunch of moving parts in there.
